Can you take the NC1 exam without taking the course?
Thanks,

Yes, you can self study. You do not have to be enrolled either, you can take one or two exams before having to be enrolled. You should take these steps:
1.) Download the free study guide from EC (Excelsior)
2.) Use it to guide your learning
3.) Take the practice exams that EC offers
4.) Take the exam
5.) Decide if you liked the process.

Yes. But the first exam is now called I think "Health Safety."

Yes, be sure to register for the test under the new curriculum! You had to have enrolled by October 1, 2007 to be taking the "nursing concepts" test.
I'm attaching a quick-n-dirty comparison of nursing concepts exams vs. new curriculum tests. This is just a high-level comparison by subject area -- I didn't drill down any further than that.

Thanks for your work on this stuff, Lunah. I sure wouldn't have the patience for it!

BBFRN can tell you how OCD I am ... I even have a color-coded schedule ... it's hilarious!
LOL...It's nice to know I have a counterpart like me. My current job loves the fact that I make reference guides for everything. They laugh when I am making them, but they come a calling when they need the information.
Oh, thank you!!!! Think I'll take the CLEP for English Comp - that should save me some $$ too.
mc3:yeah:
Have you checked with EC to make sure they accept that one for credit? There was an English-class-type CLEP they stopped accepting, and I don't remember which one it was.
Nope, but I will on Monday...
Goodnight!

:chuckle She really does have a color-coded schedule.
And I thought I was OCD. :rotfl:
Here, have a chuckle! I've even added my preceptors on there (T, D, or A -- three RNs I work with; D is my usual preceptor, but I'm encouraged to get max exposure to different nursing styles). See why I need it color-coded??? I just finished Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) today, and I have the Virginia EMS symposium to attend in just a couple of weeks. I almost panic when I wake up because I don't want to forget to be somewhere! LOL
