I'm an LVN in Texas and I want to become an RN but...... I have to work full-time. I have been looking into the EC online distant learning program and i have so many questions. How is it? What is the cost? actual cost? Is it real? Will my state except it after i finish? Is anyone doing the program now that can tell me if they have had any problems with it? HELP??:banghead:

Well...I am just starting out myself, so I can not answer many of your questions, and even though I have only taken one exam...I am under the old curriculum, so I don't know that much about the one you would be under. I do know that many of the people work full time, and many of those have successfully completed this program. I, myself work fulltime, and I do already realize it takes much dedication, but if we really want it we will do it. Good Luck!:spnngwlcm:Traci

You will be fine texas is wonderful and you will be able to be licensed and practice as an rn in that state with no problem.. With what is going on in Ga i am considering moving there.. apply for all the scholarships and join all the study groups. pricing and all is on the website. buy books from amazon.com and craigslist. dont pay extra money joining the study networks and ect.

excelsior is wonderful, graduated there 12 years ago. i paid the extra to join the ec network and it was worth it bc i got to interact with other nurses who were taking/studyin g for the same exams as i was and the nurse educator would also meet us online for chats to "prepare" us for the exams. i did great....and this is an excellent program, but dont be fooled into thinking this is an easy program, it is actually much more difficult than a traditional nsg program and the exams are much more difficult to pass and prepare for. then the clinical exams are not easy, i am not sure what the failure rate is, but it is difficult. i found that the nurses who entered the program bc they thought it was easy or that their lpn experience would make them more qualified without the study time for the exams.....those nurses always failed. this.....is a very very difficult program...and requires much discipline to pass. good luck!:twocents:

i dont think they thought it was an online program, but ec does offer online chatrooms where nurse educators and other students can meet and network to study for tests. there are extra fees associated with this and i think that is what they were contemplating...whether the cost would be worth it. i think it defintely helped me, just to have access to the educators etc. i am not really sure how ec is set up now. i graduated many years ago and it was self study. you got a study guide and ordered the book , read the book and took the test, has it changed?

I am also a TX LVN, with 18+ years, I am taking my cpne(clinical test) in 16 days. I did think I could pass with my experience but failed the first time. You just have to go in with the attitude of a new student and forget all you know about how to do things. I will pass this time and will be an RN in Texas, I will not be changing jobs just getting a raise. My employer paid for all cost and actually suggested this program so it is not a bad thing. I worked full-time and have a hubby and 2 boys (15 & 8) very involved in sports, I did not miss one thing yet. Sometimes had books at the ball park to study. LOL. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and I will try to help in any way.

I failed the first time through, too, txangle.

You'll nail it this time!
