Lol..I saw the title to this post and my heart stopped! Figured I was the only one who had to deal with ERI's. Oh the memories that title brought back...
http://www.eriworld.net is their website.
An ERI is a test that is similar to the NCLEX and is supposedly written by the same people who write the NCLEX. It is to familarize you with the NCLEX as well as the new format questions (check all, etc)
Personally, I didnt mind ERI's, I found that they prepared me not just for the NCLEX, but helped me think like a nurse. Prioritizing questions, etc. A Lot of people in my school were extremly fed up with them, as we had to pass certain ones to graduate. As long as you read the question and all of the choices, it wasnt that bad.
Practice makes perfect, and I think that the ERI's were helpful. I dont know how much they helped me with NCLEX, but they did show me what I did know and what I didnt know. I was able to see which questions I got wrong, and a rationale (although not always great) was given. It was helpful to me to take these tests. Granted they were never fun but...thats besides the point!
Your school should give you a login, where you will be able to access many different ERI's such as peds, ob, med surg, pharm, prioritizing, etc. This way you can take them in the comfort of your own home. Fair warning, they are timed tests. however, ample time is given.
I hope this helps! I have oodles of ERI knowledge in my head..so feel free to ask any more questions!

We are very limited on the ones they allow us to do. And there are no rationales. How do I see the rationales? It would be great practice to have the rationales available, but of course from our school that would be asking too much.
Oh the joys of ERI! If they are letting you take ERI's- you should be given a login so that you can go online and take other practice ones.
Ask a professor, or better yet the head of your nursing department. Explain how it would be good to get online and take other tests while you are at home and have time. On their site there is a spot for student nurse login- since you are taking ERI's- you should get access.
I beleive, but dont quote me- if you take a test in test format and not practice (we had to do this- all take them as a group in the lab) then it will not show rationales. However, online should show you results if you take the practice ones.
Good luck with these, and let me know if they give you online access to those practice ones!!!

I wasn't impressed with ERI. I didn't study with anything that they offered. I used other more popular brands just because they offered rationales. Ya really need rationales to change how you answer the questions otherwise how will you know where your thinking is?

You have brought up a very big bug about ERI testing. The rationales are not available on the practice tests, nor is it possible to find out what questions were missed making it impossible to know where to remediate. For this reason, our school doesn't use ERI anymore. I freaked out when my first practice test scored at 30% but I had no idea what the problem areas were. Maybe they've changed their product since then? One can only hope.
You mentioned other brands - are there other tests out there that could help me prepare for the ERI?
Unfortunately they haven't - and if you don't make national average your out - nice for a public college that I'm paying for huh? No it doesn't tell you what you missed just that you need to work on for example conception through adolscence - hellllooo. Gimme a break that's a huge area to cover. Not to mention our regular exams that if you don't make 70% or above at the semseters end your out.

I'll top that! Our school just added a requirement that we meet national average on the ERI nursing care of adults RNCAP test at the end of this semester or we do not move on to our final semester of nursing school. People that do not pass are out of the program and do not get anything for the last 18 months of hell. Disregarding the fact that we don't think they should be able to do this, I don't think anything is going to change in the 2 weeks we have to prepare for the exam. I am freaking out! I am a high B or A student, and I generally do well on exams, but I hate the idea that my future is riding on 1 test, even with the NCLEX, repeats are possible if you screw up. (BTW, our school has always had a policy of everyone having an 80 average or they don't move on, so we've already weeded out a good part of our class, but apparently that's not good enough). Anyway, enough complaining, guess I better figure out this ERI stuff pdq.

We do ERI tests for most of our clinical classes.. I have three that I have to do by Dec. 1. We have to get higher than the national average to pass our classes but we do get to retake them until we get it. I think it is more for the program to gauge how they are doing than for our benefit (it was never put to us like it was for us to practice for NCLEX & I don't really think of it that way for the reasons already listed).
We also have the adult RNCAP test 2 of them to take plus the pharmacology. If I hear of anything that might help you and vice versa I'll let you know

It sounds as tho ERI is like MEDS (medspub.com). That is what we have at our school. We pay 82 dollars a semester to have access to specific ones that our professors require to pass the class. However MEDS does have the rationales and is very very informative! I love it and would reccomend it to anyone!
