Was it really a good idea to change the name? Seems to me like if you tell someone you are an ED nurse they may get the wrong idea... as in Erectile Dysfunction instead of Emergency Department, lol! Should make for some good jokes though!

To me--"ER" means Emergency Room-- and for most of us-- we are more than a room! We are a unit that specializes in emergency care of the sick and injured
Maybe we should be EU nurses!

I use both depending on what I can pull out my brain first.
I think the problem with ED is all those commercial on these days.
I remember the old days, when I was young, the ER was just a room. You didn't usually have a doctor assigned to it. If you came in they called someone on call or your primary to come in. It wasn't the big trauma center/department that it is these days. Probably in the smaller hospitals you still will see it referenced as ER.

I just use ED. I'm used to it now.
BTW, love the Sarcasm Shop site. I would get in trouble for wearing some of the shirts featured though.

ER is an American term in Ireland it was A&E - accident and emergency and before that Casualty. Same in Australia.
Now it is ED. I'm usually fairly quick to pick up on those double meanings but I suppose we don't see those ads here on billboards or TV so it never clicked!!

We're technically an ECC -- Emergency Care Center. Whatever!

It's Emergency Center at all three of the hospitals in the system I work for. Most places around here use Unit or Department - nobody that I know of has a Room anymore, except in advertising.
