Drug Screening

Published

Does your LTC facility do employee drug screening? If so, what are the employers responsibilities if someone is found positive for illegal drug use. My facility doesn't screen. I'm tempted to start (but won't) a rumor that we are going to begin screening just to see how many employees voluntarily resign. Any thoughts?

What is motivating you to want to start a rumor about drug screening? Do you suspect that certain staff members are using? If so then why not report them to management or the state?

If you don't suspect that any particular individual is using drugs then what would be the point of starting rumors?

Do you realize how absolutely Orwellian you sound..."or the state"?Do you think they use at work? That is one matter...or do you just "think

they use?"Wow...weird.

I just got back from orientation... I have to take a Hair Drug Test prior to starting my nursing program. Has anyone ever had to do this?? I thought most, if not all, nursing programs required urine screening? What did yall have to do for school?

Specializes in Oncology, Ortho, Neuro.

thats about the most absolutely ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. If your facility wants to do drug testing, that's their deal, but you really don't need to be the hall monitior do you?:nono: Starting a rumor is ALWAYS bad, bad, bad.

what are you trying to say?

No pre nursing school drug screens when I went to school some 15 years ago. I'm surprised they are doing a hair sample drug screen. I hear those are more expensive than the UDS.

We actually had the mouth/saliva thingy.. It looked like a prego test, but it had a small brush on it, and your saliva filled up the chamber (like urine in a prego test) and showed whether or not you tested positive for anything.

I thought it was funny to think of anyone trying to fool the test and coming with a bag of urine strapped to their leg, and then being asked to open their mouth...LOL..:lol2:

In my RN program we don't have drug screening, but do have criminal background checks. How could you take drugs & get up for clinicals @ 0500 anyway? LOL ; )

I've been employed at an LTCF for the past year and a half, and my facility does not perform drug screens on potential or current employees.

Specializes in LTC , SDC and MDS certified (3.0).

Working in LTC, here in NC they have drug tested before hiring and after accidents(workers comp) for the last 11 years!! As an SDC, I test ALL potential employees!

FOR the RN program (I just finished in May) we were tested EVERY semester(urine) at least once :then again random for 1/2 the class

The only time I had to give hair samples when I started to work for Blockbuster 16-17 years ago. For the testing in school, the cost was put on us.

My question is why do I get tested and pay my taxes but the people

I help support on welfare (not all , I don't want political feedback)

DON'T??!!

Never heard of a facility doing drug screening, I think they would have a hard time introducing it.
