I am in the process of gathering the documents required for the first clinical. My school mentioned two insurance programs, through NSO and Marsh. Or it said you can look for others.
Does it make a difference which organization? Are some better than others?
Thanks! :)

I PROMISE I am not trying to sound snarky, but why aren't you covered by your school? I think it's odd that they tell you to get it.

It's actually pretty standard and smart to have your insurance. For only $30, that's a whole lot of peace of mind!
I'm sure the school has a policy to cover students, but they also require each student to have a policy. As newRNstudent02 posted, I think it's a good idea anyway. And it is inexpensive, compared to the other things they require before registration for clinicals.

We ahve to ahve insurance too, I thin everybody does, as sudents. We get ours through our school though and its only 15 dollars for the year :) I think every school is different for things like we had a criminal background check when we were accepted and we just had to sign the papers for it and paid nothing where my friend at a school by me had to pay 100 dollars to do their criminal background check.

I would think we would also be covered by the school. I'm glad this was brought up and is something for me to inquire about at school. At my school I've not heard we have to have a separate plan.
Here is the company I got my birth doula/lactation insurance through. I see they also cover student nurses. I am pleased with their doula coverage.

We have to have our own insurance at my University. They gave us the choice of NSO (http://www.nso.com) or Marsh Affinity Group (proliability.com) We have to have minimal limits of 1,000,000 per occurrence and 3,000,000 aggregate. I went with NSO because I found it recommended by a bunch of people on the boards here.
My policy came with 1,000,000 per claim and 6,000,000 aggregate for less than 40/yr.
Just be sure not to put it off to the last day, it takes a couple of days to process it and get you your policy sheet back to you. I planned on getting it even if it wasn't required, I'm not letting my future rest on someone else's insurance.

My school requires all students to get an individual nursing student liability policy. The school only covers so much. For $35 for the year (plus a half price discount the first year you are licensed) it is quite the deal, same as above 1,000,000 per claim, 6,000,000 aggregate plus coverage for any later suits filed (such as I decide to not be a nurse but a claim is filed for a child I cared for after I left the field)
We were required by the school board to purchase a policy from NSO.
