Greetings to all-
Minnesota seems very nice place to live. Do you like it there? I used to live in Seattle, and unlike many other people I liked the weather. We relocated to LA because of my husband's job. I'm curious what's like to live in Minnesota. If you could tell me what you like and don't like the most about the state. I want to visit sometime.

For the most part I like Minnesota. For example today it is beautiful, sunny and 75, But a week ago it was only about 32.
I like the change of seasons. I love the snow, although driving can be tricky, especially the first snow fall. It seems like people forget how to drive in the snow!
You should come and visit. I live in Minneapolis and I love it during the summer. There are a ton of things to do in the summer, like festivals and such.
But beware, once you come here you'll never want to leave!! That's what happened to me!
Dear SMG,
Thank you for your reply. Sounds awesome! I can't wait to visit and fall in love!

I've lived in MN all my life, first the north, now the SE. I LOVE the lakes and the change of seasons....yes even winter.
I garden and enjoy everything about the outdoors so for me this is home. The sky is so beautiful and the air is clean. I love listening to the loons. The night sky is wonderful.
For me this is home and although I love to travel and appreciate the beauty of where ever I am....I love my state.

I love it here too!
We've got art and entertainment for culture, polarized politics for interest, water sport with the wonderful "at the lake" life in the summer, winter/snow sport, great emphasis is placed on education for kids and higher education for adults, The good work ethic, and we eat very well! Values are family-centered.
We do also have the bitter cold at times, the oppressive humidity at other times, and mosquitos for part of the summer. We are highly taxed (although our new gov'ner is trying hard to bring this into balance), and we attract welfare families from near and far for good pay-outs.
All in all, the good definately outweighs the bad!

I currently live in Oklahoma, but if I had the choice I'd move to Minnesota in a heartbeat. I have a lot of family up there, and I did my doula training in Bloomington. It's an absolutely beautiful area. Yes, the winters are cold but I love the snow. I would take the harsh winters of Minnesota over the 105 summer temps in Okahoma anyday! The lakes are beautiful, and the people up there are wonderful. They ban together, they have a true sense of family and community. If I had the chance to move there, I'd take it!

If you want to give all of your money (read: taxes!!!!) to those who don't have any motivation to find a job, by all means, move here! This place caters to those who look for handouts.
It's infested with people who fee entitled to money, programs, free education, no taxes for 7yrs (due to immigration status). So if you're looking for this kind of population, come on up.
Oh, and did I mention that it's like 100 below zero about 5 months out of the year, and summer lasts all of 2 months?
Once I finish school, I'm out of here. This place is horrible.
By the way, my property taxes went up 12.1% for 2005 - and no, I don't use a single 'assistive' program to recoup any of those taxes. It's a JOKE! But then again, if you're a Democrat, this is the place for you.

WRONG. If you want to live in a state where people like our heroic Vets don't get the health insurance and assistance that they need because we need more important things like casinos and sports stadiums, move to Minnesota.
A new casino would mean VOLUNTEER taxes, not mandatory (don't choose to go). Simple method really. So instead of raising my property taxes *again* by double digits, open the casinos and let the gamblers pay for the programs I don't use.
And I bet you'll see more money for our heroic Veterans as well if a new state run casino were to open. Simple, simple, simple.
Wrong again. If a casino were to open, a very large percentage of the revenue would be given to whatever tribe goes along with this horrible idea. Most of the remainder will be going towards a couple of new zillion dollar sports stadiums and for artwork and crap to "beautify" the city. That'll leave pennies for our Vets and others, if even that much.
This isn't the place for a discussion like this. I will not be posting anything further.
Wrong again? I haven't been wrong yet. Have you seen the projected numbers that a partially state run casino would generate for all citizens of MN? The first year alone, well over 200 million - that is just the fee that the state would charge the American Indian tribes willing to join in the running of the casino. If you think that 200million will all be placed for a stadium, think again. Year after year the legislators have not even been willing to consider funding a stadium unless there is considerable sharing of the cost with owners of the team(s) - which will not change regardless of casino money.
If this isn't the forum for this topic, then what is? We are debating whether or not we like MN - this is a valid topic that will help educate folks as to why or why not Minnesotans like or dislike living in the state.
But if you wish not to post any longer, that's fine. Not much else to say other than I seem to make a very good argument.
