Do you have dreams about your job?

I've been a nurse for 30 years, I'm good at my job, and almost always get through each shift with little difficulty. I enjoy my unit and my peers. I worked one position for 20+ years, and have been in a new one for just over 5 years now. I have nightmares about my job almost every sleep, and always have. If it isn't nightmares about my job, it's about "Nursing School"- that was a LONG time ago. I'd love to dream about my kids, my grandchildren, my wife, my vacation, but no luck. My question: do most of you have nightmares about your work on a regular basis, or am I a bit "touched in the head"?

Oh yeah, frequently. The most recent one involved me being out of the hospital, in the city, having fun yet knowing that I had patients I should be checking on. Totally not even a possibility to get away during a shift. I don't know where that one came from.

yes.

I also have dreams about AN.

I have ridiculous dreams/nightmares/who-knows-what often. It isn't usually about work, but often involves my coworkers.. I have not yet had a dream about Allnurses though..

Yes. I had a dream where I punched one of my patients in the face.

Some backstory: they got drunk and wrecked their motorcycle, the only fluid they will now consume is ice cold ginger ale, they've been throwing a pity party for going on 3 days now, and continue small talk when you're trying to leave the room. They steer every conversation back to the fact they have amnesia, and it seems to be a defense mechanism to release them of guilt for riding drunk. Strange that I dream about this one, since I don't really dwell on it much when I'm awake.

I had a horrible dream last night. I was helping out in ER. The whole dream, the whole shift I spent trying to put a pressure bandage on an elderly woman who had an IV dc'd from her groin! I had no idea where supplies were and patients kept being brought back, including a bloody teenager on a gurney!

Does anyone else always wake up with a headache when they have nightmares? í ½í¸Ÿ
