Didn't make it into the nursing program. Don't know what to do. Please help!!!!

I didn't make it into the nursing program. I have to wait another year before i can even apply again. If by chance I get accepted(over 2000 apply 120 get accepted) I still have to wait 2 years before the program even starts again. I feel like I wasted 2 years of my life and now I have to waste another 2 years just playing these non-sense waiting games. I don't know what to do or where to go from here. This is what I sincerely wanted to do! But now it's starting to feel hopeless. Please give me some advice. I so desperately need it!

What sort of advise do you want? Maybe you can apply elsewhere, maybe you can pursue another career path, maybe you can wait for the next slot.

Are you already a Certified Nursing Assistant? If you could work in a hospital along side nurses (while you are waiting), it would be such an advantage for you experience-wise. It wouldn't be wasted time at all.

I am so sorry you are in this situation. I am sure it is disappointing, and understandably so. If this is something you really want to do that is not going to change. Are there any other schools in your area to consider? If this school is your only option, and this is something you want to do, then don't give up. I know it is not exactly the way you had planned for this to work out, but you could always work as a nursing assistant while you are waiting to get into the program. You could also take classes towards your BSN in the meantime. Don't feel like you have wasted your time. Time spent learning is never wasted! Best wishes!

Is this an Rn program that you are trying to get into? You don't give enough of information. Why didn't you get in? Did you get an interview? Did you get a reason for not making it?

The first to do is cry a bit. That's what I did when I first found out I didn't get in.

Once you have a couple of days to express your disappointment come up with a game plan. Ask yourself why you didn't get into this program? Are they looking for things that you might not have yet? Would being a CNA increase your chances? Would taking more classes and upping your GPA give you a better chance?

Second thing I would do is look into other programs in the area. What do they require and when are they taking applications. Don't have your heart set on a certian degree (LPN, RN-ADN, RN-BSN) any nursing degree is a good stepping stone to where you want to be.

When I was wait listed I applied to several other nursing programs in the area. If that is a possibility for you I would do that. Apply for waiting list slots at other schools. (Affirm that you are able to accept a slot on short notice.) (Literally the day school starts...)

Also I would write to the program and find out:

1. Do they have a waiting list?

2. What place were you?

Affirm in your letter that you are prepared to take a noshow/late drop slot when school starts in fall...

I took those steps and ended up getting in.....

If you let me know what nearest big city/state you live in I could do some searching on the net...

I'm not sure if you were trying for an RN program, if so, can you do your LPN in the meantime and then go for the bridge program in the future (if your area offers one?)

I'm sorry this has happened to you but I am a firm believer that if you truely want something, you'll make it happen!! I had many people in my nursing program that had relocated from another city or even state just to attend the program they got accepted to. In other words, keep trying, apply everywhere.... good luck :)

I was going to say the same thing. If this was an RN program, try an LPN school. I did LPN first and don't regret it. I ditto that if you truly want something, you will make it happen. I had to wait until I was 42 to realize my dream of being a nurse. :)

Hang in there. It took me 4 years to get in. There were times when I wondered if it was worth it. I thought I'd made a mistake, wasted my time, should have chosen a different path. Then once I got my LVN license and got my first paycheck, I knew I'd made the right decision and the waiting was worth it.
