Can cna work with patient in isolation? Or collect stool for occult blood?

Does anyone know the rules on this?

Featured Replies

Yes to both, at my facility.

The only type of isolation I can think of at my hospital that techs/CNAs aren't allowed to work with are the radioactive implant/iodine swallow patients.

What about assist w incentive spiromiter.

the answers to these questions may depend on where you live and where you work. States have different rules and some rules are for nursing homes while others are only for hospitals.

as it has been mentioned previously this a matter of hospital or facility rules & regulations and it does vary from state to state, and place of work. unquestionably, i would check the book that offers the guidelines of your facility regarding this issue and you'll obtain the correct answer pertaining to your facility.

In my facility the answer to all three would be yes.

i did all of that when i was an aide. who says no? but... the answer to your question is in your hospital policy and procedure book. get to know it.

Under the guidance/direction of the RN. Yes. These are not considered, in general, to require a license to perform these activities. A level of knowledge? Yes. A level of competence? Yes. A license? No.

What makes you ask?

Yes and yes to both questions. CNAs can also collect UA specimens too, where I work.

I don't see why not. I taught my CNA students all of that and more. Just no IVs or anything invasive.

I would suggest that you ask to see the job description and what the policy states that CNAs can or cannot do at your facility and in your state. It does vary from one hospital to another.
