Hey can you write a book for us?
I'm somewhat serious.
You many times break things down in less words then a text book and in a better format. So for some very specific topics you tend to provide some very nicely formatted information that is very useful.
I'm half tempted to find some of your posts and put them in a word document for reference. Of course when I write a reference...I would need to figure out how to site you.

I agree 100% I have saved things in word documane for my future classes, I actually did look up Daytonite's past posts, I am not using them to give out as refrence but I am saving them for when I start school as my own tools.
I have already learned about ABG, and fluid balance thanks a million. Have you thought about going into teaching or maybe you already are. You certainly have a gift in making things very easy to understand.

Thank you, guys. I was told by a couple of the moderators that some of the student members follow my posts closely. I was shocked to hear that. I'm kind of in my own little world here at home. When I found the allnurses site a couple of years ago it became a way to pass time for me. You see, I am no longer working because of many medical problems that I have. I do so wish I could be back at work, but it's just not something that is going to happen any time soon. Beside two soap operas that I admit to watching faithfully, there are only a few other nighttime TV programs that I follow, so I need something to keep busy and allnurses has filled the bill. But, I want my time on allnurses to be productive. You'll see that if there are no questions for me to respond to on the student forums I'll look on the other forums and sometimes get into controversial exchanges and get myself in trouble with the moderators!
I mainly worked on a variety of medical units, in nursing homes and as an IV therapist. I was also a nursing supervisor in a couple of acute hospitals and a head nurse in a large metropolitan hospital. I've seen a lot and I am glad to share my experiences with others. Believe me, I had my struggles with things along the way. Anything I can do to help others is my pleasure. I had a head nurse who sat me down in front of our bank of telemetry monitors when I started working on a stepdown unit and explained arrhythmias in simple terms in half an hour that was very understandable. She was such a realist. I try to keep in mind that most things are not as complicated as they seem and if I can come up with any analogies that might be helpful then it's a win-win situation for everyone.
If I ever get my health in order here, I would like to pursue a Master's in Nursing so I can teach. There is a university down the road from me that has the exact program that I need. However, some of you may know I'm undergoing a 6-month course of chemotherapy at this time and the side effects have been brutal. Another long-term complication of radiation therapy I had 10 years ago for another cancer I had has also developed and cannot be treated until the chemotherapy is completed. So, I tend to take each day at a time. I did want to put something together on how to write a care plan. That's how my Critical Thinking Flow Sheet started.

Well thank you so much with all you have oing on, to take the time to share your knowledge with us!
I hope your health continue's to improve, your certainly an invaluble source of information.
Not that you are looking for more to do, but have you ever thought of contacting the local community college as a tutor? Heck you could even do that online, our tutoring center has online tutors, if your still looking to keep your hand in things that would be a good way.
i love the idea of writing a manual, booklet etc...until then please keep answering questions, like I said I am making a folder for when I start (hopefully in January). We went over ABG's and Fluid balance in AP it was a year ago now though and I remember thinking boy this stuff is complicated, I am glad I have another tool now thanks to your posts.

I am terribly sorry to hear about your current condition. You will definitely be in my prayers.
You truly have been a TREMENDOUS help to everyone on this board and I love your realist personality.
I wish all the best for you, and again, thank you! :)

I wish you the best as well and am SO thankful you are here to share with us. I say this with complete seriousness -- you have helped me understand several things that my instructor's have failed to make me understand after several attempts. You would be a WONDERFUL teacher and I wish you the very best of luck; I'll be keeping you in my prayers. :)

Daytonite,
I can only repeat the gratitude I have for you just as hundreds and hundreds of nurses and nursing students have for you. I'm starting to collect info for my journey that starts this January.
Thanks again and best of health!

I am one of those students who always tries to read all of your posts, and I have even been lucky enough that you have answered a few of my own questions! I have learned so much from you, and even though I am only 5 weeks into my official program, I feel that I was very well prepared. I know that is largely due to learning so much already from you before I even started.
I hope that your health continues to improve, and I think you would make a wonderful teacher because you already are!

I wish you the best as you undergo treatment. I hope you are able to find joy and comfort every single day.
I am another who loves to read your posts. I haven't seen one yet that hasn't taught me something. More than I could ever say, I appreciate the time you take to give solid, in depth answers. You have a way of putting things which makes them make sense. Thank you so much!

Thank you from me as well, I felt so much more prepared than the rest of my class first semester, mostly as a result of allnurses in general and your posts specifically. I understood the basics of the nursing process, ABCs, Maslow, and had read rationales to many NCLEX-style question answers. You would make a wonderful nursing professor, and I would love to have you at my school! I am keeping you in my thoughts as well and wish you the best with your treatments.

On days where I sometimes regret my decision to become a nurse, I have only to read some of Daytonite's posts and see the passion for nursing that exudes from them and to aspire to hold such a passion and level of knowledge myself.
