Curious Question

I'm keeping mind. I don't think its necessary to delete unless you waste your time on there or you have things you want to hide.

It should be fine as long as you know what would be appropriate and inappropriate to post. I rarely ever post on my account. I don't post pictures of myself. I don't have a pic of myself as a profile pic. I don't allow myself to be tagged. I keep the account because a majority of my family is on the west coast or overseas so its the only way we all keep in touch.

OP, you state that you are a known procrastinator and you get caught up in other things. Some folks just should not have those temptations staring them in the face. It is all too easy to get behind in NS and making it up is not only stressful (like you don't have enough of that already!) but almost too hard to accomplish. Your priorities need to be in correct order. Delete FB (it takes about a week but it is sort of possible and makes it harder to get back in) and spend the time you would have wasted on FB studying instead. Just my two cents.

I don't think it's necessary to delete it. On top of that, it's very easy now to control who sees what. If you have something you don't want someone to see, you set it so they can't. Friends only and custom are great settings. Also, it is my belief that what you post on Facebook is part of your personal life and employers or the school really have no business looking at it. When I was in high school they tried to suspend me over and over when my friends started drama and even enlisted someone on my list to spy on it and screenshot my statuses. Keep in mind I never threatened any student, named any names when I vented, or even insulted anyone identifiable. This was admin and another student literally trying to punish me for standing up for myself and posting my views. Not only that, I didn't post it during class time. And if it was during school hours, it was on my break and from my cell phone. Once I found out they had gotten someone from school to spy on me in an attempt to force me to censor my personal views, stop posting photography with a dark subject matter, and to basically never ever vent my response was to delete everyone I didn't have the utmost trust in and not add anyone back until they proved to me I could. Now my rule is to basically be very careful about who I add that I go to school with. I have a lot of views that some people will not agree with, and Facebook is where I go at the end of a bad day to vent. My personal life is personal, and frankly not only will I not censor myself (if I offend you don't be a coward, just tell me and well work something out) but I will also never give an employer access to my account. Nor will I add them. I don't always vent. I really don't. But they also don't need to see what discussion groups I post in; that I went for some really good coffee, or my photographs. Best tip if you don't want someone to find you is to connect the account to an online handle. It saved me a lot of trouble after that particular incident.

I don't abuse Facebook in anyway, like I don't neglect my children or my husband, my house always gets cleaned daily and dinner is cooked every night. I am just curious as to if it may become an issue for me just because when I begin to feel myself overwhelmed I turn to "taking breaks" - watching tv, playing on the Internet (that includes this website too lol) or finding projects to do around the home. My husband told me the other day he is worried that if I don't deactivate it FB could become an issue... Just because of my habit of procrastinating in the past. I have always done well in school, but with the procrastinating I usually physically suffer by staying up late to study...

I think, and i HOPE that I will have so much on my plate as a stay at home mom of 2 and going to nursing school full time I will not have anytime to get on the Internet. I mean, if studying becomes overwhelming I'm sure there will be dishes to do, or laundry, my daughter will need help with homework, and my dogs will need to be walked.

I would just hate to take away a major communication line between me and my loved ones 12 hours away... But I gotta do what I gotta do! :) I'll just send them all my phone number so if they want to talk they can call! Old school! Hahaha!

(2) I have no interest in being 1 of your 1000 friends.

(3) I don't want to know or care that you had a bad experience ordering a burger at McDonald's today.

(4) I don't want to "reject" my mom's "friend request" for the 4th time.

(5) I won't place my privacy at risk.

I have never had FB, but I waste an amazing amount of time here that I'll have to give up next week when I start school.

I have to agree I spend a high amount of time in a day on all nurses and i must give this up once class start I have three weeks.

This is a really good CNE on Facebook use and how to avoid it compromising your employment, future employment, or your status as a student: Facebook | CE630 > Continuing Education Unit at Nurse.com You can view it for free, but you have to pay to receive credit. There are some horror stories of nurses and nursing students violating HIPAA and facing serious repercussions for it. I agree with StudentNurseKitteh; it's a/b self-control.

Actually facebook during nursing school can be a great resource when used properly

Our class of 40 has their own completely private group page. You have to be invited onto it. No one other than members can even see that it exists.

We use it to keep eachother informed/updated on dates and different things that arise. Sometimes you may miss a portion of something in class, fb is an easy, quick way to share info.

Keep it professional and don't be dumb enough to ever post anything that could get you the boot.

Oh and keep the drinking/party pics off. It doesnt make one look like a very good nursing student IMO

There is a whole thread here on allnurses that talks about it as well. It happened in the KC area where I live at another community college, at the top of the allnurses page is a search bar, type in "picture of placenta" and you should get a link to the thread where they talk about what happened. Just be careful.

WOW!!! I'm sorry, but you would think taking a picture of a severed human body part is just not something ANYONE on FB would want to see, whether it is ethical or not... especially a placenta.

I am not worried about posting things that get me in trouble on FB. I was just worried about the "getting carried away" aspect of getting on it.

Wow. I am not a student, but i do think that you should be able to manage time on FB and study time without an issue.

If time management is such a problem for you, you will find something other than FB to distract you, so I'd try to learn some time management skills if you really think this is going to be an issue!
