considering dropping one...

Since you have a lot on your plate, it might be a good idea to drop the micro. A person can only do so much, and you can always pick up the class later.

Thanks Marie-I think the negative would be losing some$$ for dropping the course, and maybe some guilt-the positive I think would be staying on track with the A&P, and getting some necessary things completed before entering into actual nursing program.

I don't think it's a bad idea to drop Micro. Yeah you're out of the money, but you said you're behind and what are the odds you'll get caught back up? Probably slim. Science can be downright hard.

Drop the course and pick it back up later when you're not taking another science course. And then you'll have time to focus on it, keep up and get a really good grade on the course.

Don't drop! :) You can do it! This will give you good practice for when you are in nursing school. YOu'll have to take 3 or 4 classes at once! That's what i'm worried about. I'm used to just taking 1 or 2 classes at a time!

Micro was definitely tough and I had to study every day to keep up, but you can do it. It's ok to mess up a test or two, just try and study a little bit every night and if you don't understand it, google it! This will give you motivation to study harder for the next test. Not saying you didn't study hard for the first test, but now you know how the tests are.

Good luck! You can do it! I took Organic chemistry and a computer class over the summer years ago and I got a C on my first Organic test and was thinking of dropping, but that would be me behind. So I stuck it out and ended up with an A!

Thanks guys! I just don't want to wind up screwing up BOTH classes, you know? Yes, true, good prep for nursing-I guess my thoughts are why continue to add more stress to my stress. My wheels spin then I can't focus on anything.

Talk to an Academic Counselor at your school to get some advice. Maybe he/she knows of alternatives to dropping or will suggest it as the best thing with alternate course work to help in the future? Usually dropping classes does not look as bad as a poor grade earned. Good luck. :wink2:

My heart goes out to you. I think it's hard enough to stay on track in Micro let alone catching up. I vote for dropping it while you still can. I would concentrate on getting the best grade (and learning) the material in A&P I. Maybe talk to a financial aid counselor to get your finances in order to keep taking classes. I'm sure going through a divorce takes a lot of mental energy. Concentrate some on yourself and your daughter. She needs her mom, especially now that she's a teenager. Keep your chin up!

I'd say that although taking two difficult classes together will prepare for harder school-days ahead, that it may be wise to drop the Micro class. After all, if you don't do well in either class, or you end up with less than stellar grades you could be compromising your ability to even make it into the nursing program. We all know how much weight is put on those science pre-reqs! If possible though, can you wait to drop until after the next set of tests? You may find that you are doing better than you thought and not need to drop after all.

I had to drop a science class once when I was overwhelmed. It was a good decision for me--I DID NOT want bad grades on my record!

I too had to drop AP2 (tried doubling up with Micro) it was too timeconsuming for me. I wanted to make sure that I kept my 4.0 average. It was the best decision (hard at the time) I made! I am now in AP2 and will begin applying for nursing schools in December.

As tweety said (on a thread almost 2 years ago) just enjoy this journey... that really helped me put things in perspective.

I'm sorry but I think this is bad advice. I think the OP has already realized that she has pushed herself to the limit and it is affecting her grades and sanity. My first semester of nursing school (I thought I was super nursing student perhaps:monkeydance: ) I took my 9 cr hr nursing course, A&P with Lab, Micro with Lab, and Pharmacology. There's only so much time and attention you can divide between them and one or more of your grades may suffer (not to mention your family).

OP- go with your gut instinct. You feel overwhelmed, then drop a course, you can always pick it up next semester.:mortarboard:

Well, either way, not sure of the timing and everything. I can't drop a course, otherwise I would have to forgo my acceptance to nursing school. So that's why I recommended sticking it out. If she has all the time in the world, then yeah, drop it and take 1 class a semester and have it be easier that way.

Just because my advice is different from yours doesn't make it bad advice. Just different. I just see dropping a class as a last resort. The first few weeks of school are always stressful and dropping seems like a quick and easy fix. But maybe forming a plan, studying better, etc. can help her out. It's not too late.

But if she does have time, then yeah, just go drop it.
