Computer virus screes

Featured Replies

I have AVG, the free one.

Has worked pretty good for me.

I used to have McAfee but it didn't do the job like I was told it would do. I got viruses in my computer more than once and had it in the shop to get it cleaned up.

But AVG has worked well, altho I do have another protection now.....the guy at the shop recommended I get this thing from WalMart, and hook it up. It's a box and I think it operates like a firewall between my computer and the connections.

I haven't had any trouble now, in quite some time.

I have McAfee and am fairly happy with it. It always seems to have some sort of update anytime i go online which i suppose is good. I've never had a virus in the compy with it, but then again i'm not a big downloader. I have norton in another computer and find it very frustrating as it stops me constantly.

how do i get the free avg one.

I'm using AVG,.used it free for the allowed period then purchased it. So far I like it better than the very expensive one I purchased with my computer (CA Suite).

I use Norton from Symantec after an incident years ago where McAfee did not respond timely enough come up with an update against a trojan that allowed a hacker into my system. No problems with Norton. If the other poster has problems with Norton "stopping" them, it is likely because they have not manually set things up to allow Norton to run in the background without constantly asking for permission to work.

I use Norton and CA Security System. I was being attacked really bad last week and those two have worked miracles for me.

I use Windows Live One Care. It covers three computers for (I think) $50/year. Never had a virus, it also cleans and defragments automatically.

Norton. We've used it for years.

I have used Trend, Norton, McAffee, and Windows OneCare and have had problems with all of them. So, now I take my computer to a tech every few months and he uses his very expensive program to clean everything up. It costs about $50 each time and he provides me an updated backup. I think that it's money well spent as the computer I have now has never had a problem and I've been doing this with him for about a year. And it never fails....there is something lurking that my antivirus hasn't detected. He recommends, and I use, Norton. I doubt anything is completely effective.
