Oct 28, 201213 yr I am starting to look at computers for school and am at a loss for how many choices there are. What should I get? I am looking at a $700ish limit.
Oct 28, 201213 yr You can find a laptop for around 300-500 that will meet all your needs. Look at HP, Toshiba, and maybe Samsung. You can invest the rest of the money into Microsoft Office. You should do some research. As of now you can get a good deal for either an Intel i3 or i5 that will let you get on the internet and do school work. One thing to keep in mind, computers are far more powerful then 5 years ago. You will be ok getting a budget laptop from a reputable brand.
Oct 28, 201213 yr I recommend a netbook. Mine doesn't have a CD rom but I can pack it with me and take it to go without any issues because its so small. I love it. My mom also has an Ipad. The picture is so clear! I love listening to my lectures on it.
Oct 28, 201213 yr I highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite. I now have a Mac for Grad school, which is three years old and giving me problems...time for a new one, I think. My last laptop was a Toshiba and I had it for 8 years and never had a problem with it! It was a great computer!
Oct 28, 201213 yr HP is a very reputable brand and are very affordable nowadays. You can get a nice one for under the $700 you are willing to spend.
Oct 28, 201213 yr I LOVE my MacBook! I've had also had a Dell and Hp...the Mac is by far the best I've had and lasted the longest so far. It's a little more but well worth it.
Oct 29, 201213 yr I recommend HP. Definitely do not recommend Dell in that price range! You'll be able to find some good deals when Black Monday rolls around.
Nov 1, 201213 yr When purchasing your laptop, also remember to consider a printer. Many schools require documents be printed for clinicals or otherwise. Also, if you're like me, printing notes can be really beneficial.Printers can run another $100 or so depending on the type. Mine was $250 because I needed a scanner so I could submit forms via email so I wouldn't have to fax any documents.Just a thought. An HP laptop and printer would probably be the best for your budget. Suitable without breaking the bank! Good luck! :)
Nov 3, 201213 yr Do you record the whole lecture? Video or just voice? I have a galaxy tablet and a netbook and was hoping to get by with just those come January when my program starts. I'd love any advice!!
Nov 3, 201213 yr Do you record the whole lecture? Video or just voice? I have a galaxy tablet and a netbook and was hoping to get by with just those come January when my program starts. I'd love any advice!!I record the entire lecture using an app called Notability. I sync it with my powerpoint slides so I can listen to the lecture at a particular point when going through my notes. I don't actually have the time to relisten to 5 hours of lecture a week or sift through it to find the few points I need to have clarified so that's really the only way I would benefit from it.
Nov 3, 201213 yr Thanks!! I'll have to check that out!! I want to be sure that I can be as efficient as possible when it comes time!
Nov 3, 201213 yr Oh! I bought an external hard drive. I use it to store everything from a previous semester. I only keep the current semester on my actual laptop, everything else is on the external hard drive. Ran me about $100 but there's no way I could fill it. :)
