CNA and support

Can I work as a CNA somewhere and realistically make at minimum $12 hr? I will be starting a CNA program soon but I don't see myself being able to support my family from what I hear the going rate is. I am taking the program as a stepping stone to the Gateway LPN program. I am planning on taking the program and then just working my "regular" job until I can get into the LPN program. Is that stupid? Any positive feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's good information. :) Thanks for sharing that. Did you work any OT? Have you changed jobs since then? Did you have any prior medical experience?

I work OT occasionally.. Staffing always trys me to come in OT but I rarely do since Im so busy with school, but yes, its possible to get lots of OT.

I still work there actually.. Its a nice place & I always hear how crappy LTCFs are, so Im to afraid to leave! haha..

I applied to this place a couple days before graduating CNA school with no prior experience & started before I was certified (I think you have 30 days or something, at least there, that you can work while in the process of being certified)..

I went to RSAA a year ago & I started out working Mon-Wed 3 12's at 12/hr at a LTCF.

That's great! Would you mind sharing the facility? I would really like to work as an CNA but the pay really is too low to help support my family but I can definitely do it on $12 hr. Thanks

I would also be interested in learning more about your facility. I begin RSAA on May 5th and will be looking for work soon after. Would you mind PM-ing me the name of the facility, or I can PM you as well. Thank you soo much!

Also, if there is a referral bonus, I would be more than happy to share your name with them!

I don't....sorry. That is what she told me before she moved. But I know they were always in need of help. you can PM me and I will give you the name of the facility!

Do you think you could PM me the facility?

I wonder if you have something in your settings that blocks PMs? Or if your mailbox is full maybe you can't send out/receive?

Mail box is probably full.

You may not make $12 to start, but it's a good stepping stone and you'll have better opportunities as a CNA. You can work at a hospital as a CNA and get good benefits & experience!!

I've heard a lot of places start out at $10 for day shift, and some places increase .50 cents to .75 cents per shift. If you work nights or evenings as a CNA you'll make more then day, etc

Hola! I just wanted to see how everyone is doing with their CNA classes as most of you were going to go to RSAA I believe?

Hope all is well!!

I don't start RSAA until October but I hope that once I'm done I'll get a job with the hospice facility I volunteer with. I was already told I could have a job but it's a matter of whether they have nights available or not. As far as I know they start at $10.00/hr for days.

Those of you who went to RSAA, what was it like? What can I expect?
