CLEP Test

Does anyone know how clepping out of classes usually works with competitive selection? We just moved to a new state so I am looking at a couple of schools(one offers CLEP exams but I am not certain it is accepted by the nursing program)The community college I went to before didn't offer CLEP testing and I had no idea it was a thing.. Did anyone take CLEP exams to bypass classes?

It is really individualized to the specific school. There's not a blanket answer. My school accepts CLEP for geneds, and does not figure them in tho the GPA. Other schools have widely varying policies- and a call to the school should give you some clarity.

PS: CLEP is wonderful in my book!

I CLEP'd Psychology and Human Growth and Development (Lifespan Development) and they were accepted as transfer credit at my school. The best thing to do is either call the school directly as meanmaryjean suggested, or look at the schools catalog for their policy on CLEP exams.

Took CLEP for English composition... Was so happy to not take that class lol

The schools in my area have the same general policy.

I love CLEPs. I tested out of psych, sociology, English Comp, and HG&D.

Hi!

Sorry to hijack your post, but how was the HG&D CLEP? I'm taking it soon and looking for any and all tips ?

Thank you!

I highly recommend paying the $20 for access to the test-specific threads on this site: http://degreeforum.net/mybb/. There is great info there for this test.

For me, I used that site and the info there, Study.com's course (it is $59 a month for access to the courses and quizzes - I think it took me two weeks to get through), and Peterson's practice tests. Study.com was a little more than I needed to do, but I had to have a 60 so I overprepared. I'd rec:

Modern States (they will even pay for your CLEP if you complete their free program) https://modernstates.org/

degreeforum.net (study the things they tell you to)

REA study guide and practice tests (available on eBay or Amazon)

The Peterson's tests are very good, too. But if you only need a 50 you may not need them.

Good luck!

You are a rock star! I ((luckily)) only have to have a 50 but I have a lot riding on this test so I'm really stressing about it.

Thank you!!!

I used ModernStates.org for my CLEP exams. They paid for both the exams and the testing center fees. I also purchased a used college text book from the list provided on collegeboard.org for each exam I took and then reviews the material mostly using the bolded areas and chapter summaries. HG & D wasn't bad at all.

Great to hear! I wish I knew about ModernStates before I paid for the exam! Thank you !!!
