Chewing Ice!!!

I chew ice 24/7. I just crave it. Anemic? As far as I know I'm not.

MY MOM DOES IT ALL THE TIME. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE COME'S HOME FROM WORK, SHE GOES STRAIGHT TO THE FREEZER FOR SOME GOOD OLD ICE!!! THE DOCTOR WARNED HER ABOUT IT, BUT DOESN'T LISTEN!!!

SOMETIMES I DO THE SAME, BUT MY MOM SHE TAKES THE ICE FRESH AND CRUSHES IT. IT CAN BE PRETTY ANNOYING!!!

I have a blender that crushes ice so it is really fine, small pieces, and crunchy.

I fix me a big old glass or my big insulated cup and have a plastic spoon and just eat away. I love it.

I got started eating it when I worked on a part time job at a nursing home. They had the BEST ice! It called it "rabbit turd ice", cause that is how it was shaped. So when I quit working there I had to come up with another source for ice, so I bought me a blender that crushes ice.

As I type this, I am eating on a big glass of it right now.

I had a terrible cold about a month ago. Since then, I've grown to crave the smell of Comet and I eat ice like crazy.

I like to test different fragrances, I often smell the candles in the candle aisle at

WalMart and I also like to smell the rubber tires over in the auto department.

Rabbit turd ice:roll ! I call it pellet ice, and I LOOOVVVEEE the nice, chewy texture and slightly bleachy flavor. I have become an ice "snob". Braums and Sonic sell 7lb bags of it, and I go through about 2 bags a week since around last January. The place that I was working at was so stressful, I developed a "flare" of Crohns disease for the first time ever, along with a GI bleed and problems with absorbing any nutrients. It has been SO miserable and frustrating (diarrhea about 10 times a day at least, even in the middle of the night. ) And my husband HATES the sound of my ice chomping; I'll even chew ice rather than eat, because eating just causes more diarrhea.

My personal theory, which I guess is at least as rational as any other? Anemia is often the result of a GI bleed, and ice can cause vasoconstriction, which could slow down the bleed, at least temporarily. Just a thought.

My husband chews ice and it drives me mad. As far as I know his RBC is fine but I haven't had a CBC or H&H drawn on him recently.

I have never seen the evidence to support the ice chewing in regards to iron deficiency anemia. Interesting what our bodies crave.

As for strange smells, I like the smell of diesel vehicles. My dad drove a truck so I think it brings back a lot of memories for me. And my husband thinks I have gone mad! Its his ice chewing that does it!

:Snowman1:Wow, a classmate and I were having lunch today and were talking about how we both do this, she has been having problems with anemia and has started taking Iron. I have been indulging in the ice too, I love the ice that comes out of the ER ice machine. I am on an ambulance team and love to get ice when we go to this one hospital. Your right, it's like little turds. I will have to check into the anemia possibility too, I have been extremely tired lately. :Snow:

Comet has BLEACH in it!!:uhoh21: Don't get too close when smelling it!

I LOVE the smell of bleach!! I guess because it is just SO clean. I think it reminds me of hotels and swimming pools from vacations, esp. when I was a kid.

When I was little, we didn't have a self-defrosting freezer, so I'd take a knife and SCRAPE all that wonderful ice off of the walls of the freezer and eat it up like candy.

I think of all the FREON I ingested:idea: ...no wonder I'm so sick now.
