CE Subscription

Would you purchase an eLearning subscription that provided all CEs you need per year?

No, TheoBeo, I wouldn't, because the facility I last worked for had mandatory computer modules which were good for CEUs and met the necessary requirements.

Killed two birds with one stone at no cost.

Same where I work. Have more than enough opportunity to cover all my license renewal recs and the trauma hour recs I need. Plus we get a free subscription to CE Direct if we want/need more. I don't pay for any CEs.

We can also request reimbursement for attending conferences (I need X amount of ortho hours to maintain my certification and X amount of trauma hours each year)

Did those CE modules cover regulatory requirements like emergency preparedness, HIPAA, etc...?

Yes.

I specifically recall HIPAA standards, and evacuation techniques, e.g., in the event of an earthquake/power outage, or other disaster.

Yes.

There are several companies already providing eLearning subscription available for several years for nurses employed outside hospital settings, e.g nurse.com which I've used for years while working in small home care agency.

Your facility should provide annual training for all regulatory requirements.  Depending on how they are formatted they might also provide continuing education hours.  As @mmc51264 noted some facilities also provide free access to online CEU providers.  Medscape.com is another free source for continuing education.

Yeah. They are more concerned about making sure we've done that stuff than clinical information.

Thank you all so much for the information. The companies I have worked for purchased regulatory libraries and assigned courses to us, but none of the courses provided CEs.

I have twice because I do the CEU option when I renew my ANCC Med-Surg Nurse Certification.  I need 150 CEU's to renew and tend to wait until the last minute.  I just a package for $85 at NetCE and so far did all the Florida renewal requirements as well as 90 other CEUs, so well worth it to me.

Most of the free CEUs around are just an hour or two.  NetCE has several 15 hour courses (which take maybe an hour if you actually read it).  So I like that.

I'm not sure if where you work they would reimburse but where I work I get tuition reimbursement so I can get my $85 back.

I wouldn't, just because there is so much available. As others have mentioned, many workplaces provide them. My workplace doesn't, but I don't have any trouble meeting the requirements from using various online sources and attending conferences etc.
