bored weekender

hey yall!! I just have a question for the weekenders on here. I am new to working weekends and I do pick up a shift here and there during the week when they are short. My question is, what do yall do during the week? I don't have kids so taking care of the little ones isnt an option!! But I'm bored!! I find myself shopping more and more which I like, but dont like if ya know what I mean. I've been thinking about taking up a new hobby or something, but nothing interesting has crossed my path yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!! :clown:

How about taking a 3 credit course? Just for fun? You have nothing to lose......

I have this exact same problem! I am a new grad and will be beginning my first nursing job in October. I just don't know what to do with all of this free time that I suddenly have, especially the time during the week. I am planning to take up jogging (as soon I kick this bug I have picked up), but I don't know what to do with the rest of my time. I am going to be watching out for suggestions as well. Otherwise, I am going to end up permanently attached to my sofa watching the numerous "judge" shows that come on during the day

Taking a class isn't a bad idea, but I really need a break from that for a short time :chuckle

I...

watch movies, play with my dogs, make jewelry, read, clean, study for my CCRN, meet my husband/friends for lunch, draw, play guitar, cook/bake, go to the gym, play solitaire, play Rock Band on Xbox, nap, go to the park and feed the ducks, sew (learning to make scrubs), knit (just a beginner), drive to "the city" and go shopping, talk on the phone, primp(self facials/manicures/pedicures/), wash and iron my scrubs, work in the garden, and in general just try to rid myself of the work stress I built up over the weekend.

I wish I had your issue. I would find so many things to do to take up my time...my house would be cleaner, laundry would be done, would take a class of interest, take up a hobby...MANY things. And, yeah, there are television shows that I can catch up with as well because I am basically a homebody by the time the night rolls in.

Just so I get this correct- working the weekends (l'm guessing fri/sat/sun) is equal to a full 'work week' (mon-fri)?

I saw it mentioned a few times around the board but didn't quite understand. If so, that is a pretty sweet deal.

If it was me I would probably sleep a day away the hit the yoga studio to unwind from work stress.

yeah, full time, Sat and Sun. I thought about a class, but I'm not sure what I'd want to take, and in order for me to be motivated in school, I have to want to go, not sure if I want that. I'm a runner, but that only takes up an hour or so in the mornings. I'm going to start traveling during the week, but thats only one week every couple months or so. I dont watch much TV, so being glued to the couch isnt an issue. I just need to get into something. Hmm....more thinking to do, but I love yalls sugestions!!

Volunteer! Be important in somebody's life--deliver Meals on Wheels, pick a candidate and offer support (at the local, state or national level.) Learn how to give tours at a local museum. Look for an organization that mirrors your value system & jump right in. There are loads of non profits of every description that are desperate for volunteers because so many families are now 2 earner households. You will be cherished & appreciated for anything you do.

I have been working weekends for nearly 3 years.

Even if I loaf around the house and sleep my days away, it is certainly better than going into work for five or six 8-hour shifts per week. I attempted to go back to the five-day workweek earlier this year, and it felt like hell on earth. I don't have it in me to carry this job out 5 days per week.

when i first started working weekend option i had the feeling that i should be at work that i was missing something

after a little while it seemed like sat morning came rushing in with hardly any time in between..

you will adapt

Be a volunteer!! I have been heavily involved in various types of volunteer work over the years. It is very rewarding in so many ways. Besides the reward of being able to help those in need, I have also formed very close friendships with fellow volunteers. I am not sure how to word it exactly, but when people come together as volunteers, a special "connection" develops between them...

So many different non-profit and community groups are in desperate need of volunteers. And there is a huge variety of ways to volunteer depending on your particular interests or beliefs. Volunteering can be fun too! And you may gain new skills. A few examples:

Teach people to read (usually one-on-one) with your local literacy association.

Help animals with a local cat or dog rescue group or shelter.

Mentor a child or adult with Big Brother/Big Sister or Compeer.

Deliver meals to the home bound with Meals on Wheels.

Volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center.

Help at a drug rehab facility or homeless shelter.

Think about it! I love being a volunteer! :loveya:

Yeah, thats another thing, Im determined not to sleep my days away and be completely lazy on my days off. And, yeah...I did the class thing (orientation) for work a few months ago, mon-fri 8 hours a day. Thats just not for me. I'll think about volunteer work, just have to find something I'm interested in.
