Forgive me this is kind of long but I needed to talk about this instructor. We often hear about the bad ones...well here is a story of a good one.
I finished OB a few weeks ago and I always loved my instructor. She had a very motherly presence and she treated everyone with the utmost respect. I loved every single minute of her lectures...
Well anyway now i am in PEDS so I barely see her anymore. Until today.
I was already having a pretty bad day- off school because I had court in the AM ( child support hearing because the ex is being...well...a pain), got a ticket leaving the courthouse because I wasn't wearing my seatbelt ( totally my fault)..drove around campus for 20 minutes looking for parking when all I had to do was run up my skills sheet from OB to this instructor...very frustrating. Almost got into an accident in the parking lot. I know my BP was through the roof at this point.
FINALLY find a parking space, run to building b/c now I am in a time crunch b/c I have to pick up the kids from school and wanted to get some errands done first......trip over curb and severely sprain ankle...fight back tears and hop the rest of the way in....run smack into the Director of the program in the elevator who proceeds to start ranting about how our class hasn't raised a dime for pinning yet ( I am not on that committee..so not even sure how this is an issue to take up w/ me? But I am class mentor so I sit and listen to her drone on about how our class is lazy, etc). Promise her i will talk w/ the pinning committee...hop down hallway to find this instructor- get a phone call from my lawyer and while I am that call I get another phone call from my job ( that i hate) that they need me tonight and it's my turn to cover a prn shift ( grrr rules)...tell them OK, tell lawyer I have to call back...find instructor ...
Who takes one look at me and says " What is going on?" and I burst into tears in the middle of the hallway..and it all comes out....... I hate my job but I am a single mom what can you do? The Ex is being a pain w/ child support, lawyer bills, school stress, got a ticket, my ankle hurts, I'm stressed out, did I mention stress? lol, I've been feeling under the weather, break wasn't nearly long enough, some more stuff about stress, my tooth broke, no dental insurance, I'm class mentor people look up to me and I am falling apart mentally, physically, emotionally, etc you name it...it just ALL came rolling out of my mouth before I even knew what I was saying. I'd seriously think I was looney tunes if I was her...but instead she pulls me into her office, gives me a GIANT bear hug, gives me a box of kleenex, picks up her phone and cancels a meeting she was going to have...and gave me 30 minutes of counseling, talking, crying, laughing, support, advice, listening, etc.
I have never EVER had a teacher, friend, you name it make me feel so important and cared about. When I left she gave me the entire box of kleenex and a lollipop. When I got to my car it hit me like " omg she gave me a lollipop..like I am 6 or something" ..but then I realized that lollipop sure made me happy. So I drove home ( seatbelt on) eating that lollipop and smiling.
She truly was an angel for me today. If only ALL instructors could be like this. THIS is a good person. She is amazing:)
