BCTC. What are my odds?

I am hoping to get in to BCTC Nursing Fall, '09.

I am taking college Algebra this semester, plan on taking developmental psych and A&PI next semester. A&PII and my CNA course in the summer. All other prerequ's are met, I am a transfer with an A.A in humanities. My accumulative GPA is a 2.7 or a 2.8. Don't remember which. I have sent in my letter of intent, have my ACT, High School and College Transcripts in. What should I do? I know there is no way for you to really know for sure but do you think my odds are good?

I really appreciate any advice.

BTW, I am doing really well in my college Algebra course.

You don't have to take Micro?

Yeah, I have to take Micro. But from what I understand I can do that later.

oh yeah that's true. I forgot about that.

I go to BCTC, am currently pre-nursing. My CNA instructor told me the lowest GPA that got into the ADN program last year was like a 3.4. I've also been told that there is usually a pretty long waiting list.

That info. persuaded me to do the LPN, then bridge to RN. It is appearantly much easier to get into LPN (they don't go by GPA, they just make sure you have your pre-reqs).

Thanks a lot. Still going to try my hand at it. I really want to get into the program. We'll see what happens.

Unless they've changed it, you have to have your A & P I done when you apply. Did you already go to one of the pre-nursing conferences yet? I know that was a requirement for us - I just started my first semester of the nursing program this semester, and I know they do occasionally change the requirements. These are the classes we had to have completed before applying: College Algebra, Writing I, General Psychology, Communications, and A & P I, as far as I remember. When you attend the pre-nursing conference, they tell you exactly which classes are a pre-requisite.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

Okay folks. Here's the scoop. I have a 4.0 GPA at BCTC, but only a 2.572 cummulative GPA (transfer student). According to the website, a 2.5 is the lowest they will take. But the good news is, I got an 86th percentile on my PAX-RN exam and according to the website those who score over the 70th percentile mark might be granted rolling admission. I have an Associate of Arts degree which, from what I gather from the conference looks good.

Time will tell.

HI:) I am looking for anyone who can give me advice on taking the NLN. I have been an LPN since 1995 and am currently taking Micro. all my other classes (A&P 1 and 2. Psych, Math, etc) are completed. I am just really scared about taking the NLN so any advice would be much appreciated. I purchased the review guide and I am going over that, but there is just soooo much.

Hey. I just took mine last thursday and did well. I used the McGraw-Hills study guide and it was descent. The math was mostly fractions/decimals/percents and the conversion between them. Science was all over the place, and I thought the study guide was very useful. Verbal was pretty easy I thought, just reading comprehension and vocabulary. If you want to be eligible for next falls nursing program (For BCTC), then you better take it before the 13th of February unless you have taken the ACT. Good luck and I started a thread on the NLN titled: "Anyone Taken the NLN recently?" You can access it by clicking on my screenname, then statistics, then all threads started by me.

I am currently a SPN from BCTC. I thought the same, that being an LPN would increase my chance of getting in to Cooper. The Program Coordinator spoke to us the other day in class, she was under the same impression. She told us that it makes it a little more difficult because instead of being compared to the Nur245 class (the bridge class), Cooper campus DOES LOOK AT YOUR GPA and compares us to the STUDENT WHO NEVER TOOK A SINGLE NURSING CLASS. So they could have took basket weaving 101 and have a 4.0. But if you keep a Great CPA throughout the lpn program, you will be okay. I just thought I would let you know this. I just found out myself. Good Luck with all your classes. And study hard!!----

If you have more than 12 hours and it has been more than 2 years since you were in school and it wasn't part of the KCTCS system you can have your GPA recalculated on your current school work.
