Baylor shift ?

Hi all! I was wondering if any of you are working something called a Baylor shift. I was called today to interview for this type of position. I think it could be a great opportunity to work only on the weekends and have Mon-Fri dedicated to school. No kids, just hubs and I. Do you like having the week to focus on school? I am used to doing 3 12's prior to my bridge program, so I am thinking an extra 4 hours to two days minus a full 12 hour shift would be doable. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I love baylor! I love it because it allows you to do what you want to do. It does suck in the Summer though; when everyone is hitting the latest weekend festival or concert, you have to be at work. I currently work 3 12's 7p-7a; one weekday plus every weekend so, its kinda like baylor but it isn't technically. Its worth it while your in school. Best of luck to you!

Oh my G-d! I would kill for a Baylor shift. Full pay and only work weekends? Where do I sign? You need my firstborn too? No problem.

I like having the week off to do 'whatever the hell I want', period.

I work Sat-Sun. 7-11p. The funny thing is, everyone but people in nursing thinks this is a cool shift. You'd think I would have to fight my coworkers off for this shift...yeah, right. My coworkers are so conditioned to work through the week - they think I'm 'missing out' because I don't have weekends off.

'But you work during the week end...?"

'...but I have 5 days off.'

"Yeah, but you miss everything that happens on the weekends."

"You mean what happens on SATURDAY because 'Sunday' is the day to sleep it off before I have to drag myself to work at the buttcrack of dawn on Monday. Did I mention having 5 days off..."

You can pick up another job. I did.

You can go back to school. I am.

You can lay around and blow farts all day. No comment.

Most times, I'd just drive around. Walk around the store. Go to the spa. Piddle about the house.

Honestly, I understand that some things are just plain better 'in theory, only'. The less I have to work, the less productive I am.

Last Friday, I resigned from my clinic job upon deciding to return to school. I bought Grand Theft Auto 5 about 3 weeks ago. I've been playing since Saturday. My boyfriend just shakes his head. To be perfectly honest, I just might spend the better half of the week on my 360.

...and not a single hint of shame shall be felt about it.

Haha medchica. I am currently in a bridge program. Working only weekends would give me ample of study time during the week.

Honestly, I have never even heard of a Baylor shift until moving here to Texas. I think it would be a great opportunity to get my "Work week" done and over with in 2 days PLUS get paid for 80 every pay period. I am sure my husband wouldn't mind having Saturday and Sunday to his self to play his computer games.

During my LVN years, I worked a couple of variations of the Baylor Plan on and off for 4+ years (2006 to 2010). This schedule enabled me to return to school to earn my RN license.

I worked two 16-hour weekend doubles every Saturday and Sunday and was paid for a full 40-hour work week. At another facility I worked two 12-hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday and was paid for a 32-hour week.

I'm glad to see that some organizations are still offering "compressed weekend" positions. I thought they all disappeared with the ongoing labor budget squeeze.

Ours was called WOW (work only weekends) and I did it for ten years. Allowed me to homeschool the kids and maintain an income.

It does suck at times. Church is out of the question, as are many, many social gatherings.

But, if you have something important to DO during the week (school, family) it makes a LOT of sense. Our hospital just eliminated the program, sadly. If they hadn't I'd have taken a position again and worked on my DNP. Sigh...

I currently work Baylor which it's called at my place of employment. I work 7p-7a each wknd and 11p-7a each mon & every other wed. I get extra pay 3 hrs for each Baylor worked on my paycheck. Sometimes I pick up an extra day. I like it so that it's easier to complete school and to keep from paying daycare.
