Type of program makes a difference too, as well as whether they look at cumulative GPA or give more weight to prereqs. An accelerated program looking at your cumulative GPA from previous degree and prereqs (like mine) will tend to have a little lower avg. GPA than a program that only looks at your grade in 4-6 prereqs. It gets harder and harder to maintain a 4.0 the more courses you take. Other programs consider GPA as only part of the total formula, so a stellar entrance exam score, essay, or interview could offset a less-than spectacular GPA. That being said, this for admittance to my accelerated program for this summer you needed at least a 3.5, cumulative.

this is exactly how my school did it... i got in-120 spots /800+apps and my gpa was 3.0 but that was from non nursing classes 20 years ago. my nursing classes are a 3.7...my nln was really good and i guessthey liked my interview:monkeydance:
My school bases entry upon a point system...
Prereqs (credits x grade) ex.. an A in A&P -> (4x4)=16 up to 120 pts
Preentrance Exam score up to 120 pts
Up to 20 extra pts for experience in medical field
Which was good for me because my cumulative GPA is only a 2.98 but I had straight A's in my prereqs and did very well on my preentrance exam.
Good luck to you!!

Does anyone know that is the average GPA for entry into a nursing program? I currently hold a 3.4.
