My philosophy is to not kill anyone or miss any orders during my shift.

It took me one shift on my own to develop this practice/philosophy. lol.

I recommend this approach to all new grads.

Mine is above all to keep my patients safe. No falls or injuries on my watch. We have way too many confused old peeps on my unit to not have this philosophy.

Simple. In ICU -- they were alive when I got there. Keep them that way.

In ER -- treat'm and street'm, unless they really are sick.

In hospice -- love'm like they're your own family, make them comfortable

This sounds like it might be a homework assignment. My suggestion if it is a homework assignment, do it the correct way. I highly doubt the assignment is to ask a nurse on allnurses.com :-D

Okay, maybe I should clarify that these questions are not anything related to nursing school. I don't even start until Thursday! I have no syllabus or anything telling me what I will be studying. LOL I understand you jumping to conclusions though.

I took a philosophy class last semester and it just has me thinking along those lines.

I am working as a CNA on a med/surg floor and so far my philosophy is to see my pt as a human being and treat them how I would want to be treated. I believe a smile can go a long way. I tend to see the smaller things like; opening the blinds in the morning so the pt can see the sunrise, or bringing in a warm blanket when they are chilly, changing the water in flowers in the room so they last longer.

I want working as a CNA through school to help me be a better RN one day. I don't want to be one of "those" nurses who think they are beyond helping someone to the bathroom or getting a warm blanket for someone. Those are the basics of nursing care. I want to be able to manage my time while giving excellent pt care. I want to get to know my pts and build a trusting relationship with them. I want them to think their hospital stay was made a little more bearable because I was their CNA.

There's a lot more and I am working on building my own philosophy still, but that's some of the basics. I have only been working on my floor for about a month and it's my first CNA job.

If this was an assignment why would I want to turn in your philospohy on nursing???

Wouldn't I want to give my own opinion? I have plenty of thoughts and opinions on my own beliefs, I don't need to borrow anyone else's. I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm not cheating.

hey now, no need to get defensive. But seriously, we have all had homework assignments that we have had to answer those questions. i think i had like 3 maybe 4. I really BS'd my way through that one quoting the good ol' Florence! yes, my professors loved that. i knew it was really cheesy but they loved it.

So im just saying...we've all had these assignments, and people get assignments where they have to interview other nurses. So it SOUNDED like it would be a good homework assignment.
