ATI Testing

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience using ATI in their program. We were told at orientation that we will be taking a critical thinking test which does not count to our grade. Then we will have access to ATI program online to use throughout the term. In addition to a final exam we have a ATI final exam for the term each term. What exactly is ATI and how can I use it to my advantage and give myself an upperhand? All advice is appreciated!

Thanks

ugh we had orientation yesterday and the rep from ATI was there - it was like a business lecture - she was flying through some stuff about making customized lessons for yourself and stuff...she was really a dingbat though!

We use ATI in our program. We are assigned chapters (can read online or paperback book) and there are 6-10 questions at the end of each chapter. Near the end of each semester we are given the id codes to take a practice final exam. The last day of class we take a CAP (?) final exam, which we were told relects the NCLEX questions that couldbe asked based upon the course (nutrition, fundamentals, med surg etc). The final exam is graded based upon levels 0-3...which determines one of our grades. If I remember correct, level 3=100, 2=90, 1=70 and 0=60.

We still use our Potter & Perry or Iggy books, but ATI chapters give the streamlined version of information. I like to review ATI prior to our tests so that I get a quick outlined review of everything.

Does other nursing program's use ATI differently?

Yes.

We don't have reading assignments from our ATI books. For skills checkoffs, the skills videos were assigned prior to learning the skill in lab. That to me is the best part about ATI. The skills videos. I don't use the books during the semester. I don't like that there are sometimes discrepancies. For studying for tests, I stick to my text and what the instructors teach and my other reliable sources like Saunders. Then for the ATI exit exam, I take the practice tests, get the focused report and focus on anything we haven't covered in class.

Level 2 is passing at my school for the end of semester ATI exit exam. I've seen others post that Level 1 is passing at their school. If you get a Level 1 at my school, you won't fail out but its not considered passing and you must do remediation. Anything below Level 1 is failing. Fail ATI exit exam and you fail out of the program. You are given 2 chances to take it though.

ATI is supposed to be a predictor of how well you will do on the NCLEX, interestingly I've read folks that said they scored level 3 on ATI exams and failed NCLEX so go figure!

Oh, the other thing I found helpful about ATI for a new nursing student, there is a module that gives pointers for answering NCLEX style questions.

Definitely go over that, it certainly lessened my learning curve with how to answer NCLEX style questions.

the way we use ATI is we are assigned certain modules for each class, like for med/surg i have 6 on different things like immunity, dermatology, endocrine stuff like that... and its like 5% of our theory grade...

so glad we dont have to take a test...how you are all suggesting.

i do have one suggestion- if you have an iphone/android get the ati app you can take little quizzes and stuff on the go, i really like it :)

we have ATI, but are not assigned readings from it.. i sometimes use the codes for practice tests on areas we are studying to see where im at, but they are waaay harder than the actual tests.. then we take an ati exam at the end of each semester. if we score a level 2 we get 1 percentage point added to our grade, a level 3 is 2 points, i think a 1 is 0 points and if you dont get a 1 you get -1 point... i always get one point and dont really study for them..

we took the critical thinking exam prior to addmission, i thought it was easy.. it has nothing to do with nursing, just common sense stuff. i got a 90% on, which was like in the 99th percentile, and i think most people did rather well on it too.

I start school Monday and we will also be using the ATI modules.

How much is the ATI app?

I used ATI during my nursing program. It is suppose to help you find your weakness therefore giving you an focus area to study. ATI books themselves seem like cliff notes to the Iggy book. Some of the values and information is slightly different. I am not a fan. The critical thinking test, we took at the beginning of the program and then again the last qtr. We had proctored exams that we had to complete during each qtr. My last qtr we took 4 ATI exams. A RN on my current floor had to take all of there proctored exams at the end of their program. They had to get a level 2 in order for the school to send their school info to the board of nursing. It depends on how your school will set its ATI program up. I will say that ATIs facebook page customer service responds a lot faster than sending an email. Questions are usually answered within a 1/2hr to 1 hr.

GOOD LUCK IN SCHOOL!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:
