Is anyone else waiting it out for the ASU post-bacc nursing program to start? I am hoping they will get the funding needed to get the program up and running. I already have my degree in a different field so waiting the two PLUS years to get into a MCC program just seems like too long. I received an unofficial nursing program checklist and have started working on the pre-reqs. Anyone else waiting?

I just saw your message and am so interested what you're referring to. I have my BA in Psychology and am looking to go back to school to become a nurse. I've been surfing the net most of the day and came across your post. Can you give me more information as to what you're talking about? I haven't been able to find a BA to BSN program in Arizona.... I need help!! Thank you!

Tyra...NAU has an accelerated BSN program for second degree seeking students. It's just 12 months long!

Do you have to complete all your prerequisites before you can apply to MCC's waiting list?
ASU is trying to receive funding for a program that caters to those of us who already hold a degree in a different field! The advisor that I spoke with stated that she should find out in July/August if she has received funding for the program. I have an "unofficial" checksheet that has the prereqs to the program. Email me if you want me to send it to you =) [email protected]
I know NAU has a program and I'm not sure about U of A, but since I have kids, I can't pick up and relocated. I'm really hoping the ASU will have their program up and running soon!

Hey all,
I just wanted to say that they've been talking about this program since before I started at ASU! Not that it won't happen, but I would just get in where you can. I had a previous degree in business and was advised of this program and they were also waiting for funding then (way back in 2008-2009). I ended up just doing the traditional BSN through ASU and just graduated last month. So I'm glad I didn't wait! Just my two cents!

ASU's 12-month post-baccalaureate program is definitely moving forward! Applications are due Oct. 1 (But you need to apply NOW to the ASU School of Nutrition and Health Promotion as a Health Science- Healthy Lifestyles Coaching major and be admitted there in good standing before applying for this program!) There are only going to be 40 slots available. But this year's crop won't be nearly as competitive as later years will be (or the traditional BSN) because so few people know about it, or have all the necessary pre-reqs completed (or to be completed by end of this year).
The program will be SUPER expensive for 12 months (with books and fees and tuition it will probably be about $35,000!!!)...but I am stuck in Phoenix and cannot commute to NAU for their 12 month program, and really want to just be done with a BSN in 12 months.
The pre-reqs are: BIO 201/202, Chm101, Mic205/206, CDE 232 (Human Dev.), HCR220 (Intro to Nursing Health Sys), HCR 240(Human Pathology), NTR241 (Nutrition), PGS101 (Intro to Psy), Stats, and general studies that should mostly be satisfied by your prior BSN, such as College Math.
6 of the 10 courses must be complete by September 1, 2011, but all of the science classes (BIO 201, BIO 202, CHM 101, and MIC 205/206) must be completed by Sept. 1 for sure, and must have been taken no earlier than Dec. 2005 for Spring 2012 applications (within 7 years). The remaining 4 may be taken in the fall 2011 semester. All other classes must be completed by December 31, 2011 to begin the 12-month program in January 2012. In subsequent years you will need to have all 10 classes completed before the Oct.1 deadline.
To get an application, I think you have to set up an appointment with an advisor, by calling (602) 496-2644.
Despite the cost, I am super excited this program is moving forward. So, who is applying this year?

I've applied--now it's just matter of waiting for a letter! Did anyone else apply?

Does anyone know what the cost difference is between this and the NAU's similar program?

$35,000!? Is that for in state? Any idea how much more out of state would be?
