Are you applying to the May 2011 RN program at MCI VA BEACH????

I have also heard about people being turned away and being told they might have a shot at newport news. After talking to my advisor, he broke it down that your admittance is based upon #1 TEAS scores, #2 your GPA, and the essay and letters are the little extra. Also they do want to get a good sense of who you are in your interview. A LOT of the girls who are applying have 4.0s and did really well on the TEAS. It really all depends on who is applying when you are also. Some mods and years are more competitive. I think if anything, that just shows really how competitve MCI really is....

I am applying for May. Right now I'm taking the night Chem. I had my interview yesterday and it seemed like it went really well. Does anyone know how many applicants there are in all. Judging from the 2 background check sessions there were only about 60, but I'm thinking there are probably more like 100. I am a good student, I did well on the TEAS and in the interview but I'm still super nervous. She said we'll know in about 2 weeks.

I was estimating about 80-100 applicants? Hopefully there aren't a lot since 9/10 applicants I have spoken with have outstanding TEAS/GPA/pre-req grades. I am really hoping to get in this time around. I'm very nervous for the interview though! I know it's essentially all the questions you were asked during the process and some explaining over of the program.

Are you applying for nights or days? or both?

I told them that I much prefer days. But I don't know what choice I'd really have if I got accepted to nights. I'm in the same situation as some of the other people...this has to be done before my husband transfers and goes back to sea. It seems like a lot of people that I'm meeting are shooting for nights though. I'm also wondering what one person's "outstanding" TEAS scores are as compared to another's just because the first time I took it i was told mine were outstanding and then I took it again and 2 of the areas went up by 10 points. It seems like everyone I talk to has just been made to feel like they will automatically get in.

In reference to teas scores the few people i have discussed it with scored in the 90's on all 3 sections. I'm not sure what the average scores are for those tests though.

Who is your adviser? Mine was Danielle but now she's isn't there anymore so my paperwork was transferred to some one named kim.

honestly, on my teas, i got like 80s and 85s

my scores were good, but im sure there were others who did better

in science i believe you have topo have at least a 70, and an average of all four being below an 80... not completely sure though

2 more weeks... this is hell

It is hell! I don't know what I'll do if I don't get in! My TEAS scores are pretty solid but I know there had to be some people with better scores. I'm sure the number of applicants might have dropped a little bit but not much. I know there are some people close to failing the pre-reqs though and mid term grades have to be in on Monday so they can decide.

Great way to put it "hell"! :) I honestly don't know what I will do if I don't get in either. A lot is riding on my ability to finish school, i'm sending lots of positive thoughts to the rest of you ladies as well! Hopefully we all make the cut. I know the program is very intense and anyone I have spoken to has said that no one else will understand what you are going through unless they are in the same situation with you. So we all have to stick together throughout the chaos

I just turned in my application for the August date. My adviser has told me my scores are solid. I have scores in the 70-80's (they told me I didn't have to take the TEAS during my first meeting, then gave it to me anyway so I did not have time to study). I expressed concern over my scores to the adviser and was told I could not re-take the test because I passed everything (she also said don't stress). I decided to take their pre-req's to show the school I have an aptitude for math and science (my bachelors is in Psychology- I haven't done basic science and math since high school which was almost a decade ago!)

What I've found is a lot of things written on allnurses about MCI are not totally true, but after attending the orientation Saturday I think they withhold some information- during our little presentation they said you could go from the RN program to the BSN program- what they didn't say was to apply to BSN program you have graduate with an RN degree from a nationally accredited program and MCI RN is not. It is possible to still apply to the BSN program, but you have to take the NLN exam first. I found it odd they left this piece of information out of the presentation.

And as far as people dropping, my admissions person said each start date has about 90 applicants and they take 50.

Can anyone give me a description of the pre-req's? I'm taking Math and computers in may and chemistry in June. I'm sort of nervous to begin these classes because there is so much "unknown."

As far as the pre-req's they are not bad. I did not take the math course, but I am currently in the computer and chemistry courses. The computer class is easy, as long as you are in class and pay attention. The teacher here is great and she tries to make it less-boring than it sounds :)

As far as chemistry, it is easy for some and not for others. In our class today the class average for our quiz was BELOW failing. I am personally not struggling in chemistry, and i honestly only believe this is because i attend every class, pay attention, takes notes, and study. It really isn't bad- the actual nursing program will be much more intense.

Don't stress- i'm sure you will do great!

Crystal, thanks for the info. I've never had a five hour 2 day a week for five week class. I've taken these classes before, but this is interesting.
