I'm doing an Accelerated BSN program, so I do have just nursing classes and clinicals the first semester. However, I spent the last year taking my prereqs (micro, pharm, patho, etc). So, in a sense, it's pretty similar to your setup but the prereqs aren't officially included in the program. I'm really glad that I've already have patho and pharm prior to heading into clinicals. I'm already nervous enough, so I think the info I learned in those classes will help me to at least partially understand what I'm doing in clinicals. (I'm still freaking out, though!!)
We have clinicals all four semesters in my ASN program, but we don't start our clinicals this semester until the end of September. From Aug. 23 - Sep. 30 we have Fundamentals lecture and lab, and then our Med/Surg I lecture, lab, and clinical begins and goes until Dec. 22. We also have Pharm the whole semester.
I start NS (2 year ADN) tomorrow, and we have eight week semesters. (summer semester is 10wks.) We don't have clinicals until the second 8 weeks, and then we change clinicals and classes every 8 week semester after that. I'm looking forward to this set up!
I'd be terrified if I had to start clinicals right away. I'm glad we have a little time to adjust to "being a nursing student" before adding in clinicals.
I start school the week after this coming Tuesday and in October we start clinical. Makes me kind of nervous about starting clinical right away.. especially since I'm not too sure what to expect.. other than what my cousin who is a nurse told me,and the people I work with at the hospital. Still I'm not prepared and I'm hoping that when October comes, I'll be ready. Good luck to you when you start.
I'm starting in the sophomore level of a 4yr BSN program and you can't start clinicals until your junior year after completing ALL lower level nursing classes and general ed classes, which include all of the sciences. In my mind, it's just like other programs where you have 2 years of pre reqs and 2 years of clinicals. I think the idea is to create a foundation to build upon when you starts clinicals.

It seems like everyone on here starts clinical their first semester of the nursing program. In my program (BSN), We dont start clinical until the second semester. Our first semester is microbiology, pharm, nursing across the lifespan and an elective. Anyone else have a set up like this? Did it help you transition better?
