Just curious how many of us are active bicyclists? I have been trying to get into a routine to ride about 3-8 miles every other day and 20 miles 1x/wk or once every 2wks. I find that I feel better after a good ride and can relax really well when i get back home. I have not thought of replacing my car for commuting, b simply like to ride to stay in (somewhat of a) shape.

I sometimes bike to work, a little over a mile away. I run (well, wog - a cross between a waddle and a jog).

I Love my bike & try to get in at least 50 miles/week.
It's usually a 20-mile ride + a few 12-mile rides. I also bought an indoor trainer so I can ride after work when it's dark.
Biking is part of my triathlon training - 1st on ever: Sprint at the Healthfirst Tri in Melbourne, FL in October!
I do remember hating biking, though - when I was trying to ride my mountain bike as a road bike - ohhhhhh so tiring!
Oh, greener grass, good luck on your sprint tri!

I'm strictly a no-hills rider, but I'm lucky to be working within cycling distance. It's great to come into work with rosy cheeks and the blood flowing. :)

We were just witness to an incredible group of individuals
who biked their way across Massachusetts on behalf of
raising money for cancer. It was quite a sight to see these
dedicated cyclists racing past our area enroute to Cape Cod.

Maybe you will be in the group next year!

I just bought a 'cross bike' (aka hybrid) a little over a month ago. I used to ride a lot, then moved to non-bike friendly communities. Pressed on for a while until another cyclist pushed me off the path and I ended up with a broken ankle for my trouble. Jerk. (He tried to tell me to look where I was going, when he was the one flying around a blind corner and t-boned me!)
So - enjoying being back in a biking friendly area! Lots of paths around. The wider hybrid tires give me a bit more stability. Though my last bike (also a hybrid) had better traction - may need to look into different tires. These get really slippery with any moisture (rain, etc.).
I only get to ride 2-3 times/week, but have been gradually increasing my distances and difficulty as I get more 'fit'. Hardly the picture of an athlete at the moment, but better than I was 2 months ago, lol! No commuting - it's too dark of a ride when I get off shift, higher risk of crash/burn.
For anyone new/getting back into cycling, I HIGHLY recommend checking out a hybrid over a road bike or mtn bike. Not so heavy, more stable, and CHEAPER than either one!! I love it!
Any other cross bike/comfort bike owners out there?

i was thinking about taking up cycling, but the people around where I live drive like maniacs. SUV's everywhere. I have to be careful not to get hit while driving. I don't even want to think about what would happen if I were on a bike. I think ill take it up once I move to a ....nicer neighborhood - county.
We live in Florida - known as a non-bike friendly state. People have been known to go out of their way to run bikers off the road..
After some research, though, we've found some really nice routes where the roads are wide & there is little traffic. Since so many bikers have also found these routes, their now known bike routes & the drivers are respectful.
Check out mapmyride.com & see if there are any group rides in your area that are already mapped out. It may be a nice way to get into riding safely.
Best of luck & have fun whatever you decide!

Yes, I commuted by bike for 20 years. I biked all seasons even in the snow. Crazy. :smokin:I have gone through so many bikes. I still bike but not as much as I used to it is getting pretty agressive when I live. But I do go and find bike trails.
