i'm about ready to just go to Bethel. Its my first choice but really expensive. Ivy Tech just seems very hard to get into. I just found out they have changed thir general education requirements to get into the program. Now they are giving points just off the teas test and 4 classes. ONLY FOUR! When your only taking 4 classes to get into a program I would think it would be really easy to get all A's. The whole admissions process has me really stressed out. One college wants this and another college wants that...ugh.
class A at one school does not equal the same class at another. Its so annoying. I would like to go to Ivy tech simply because it is a lot cheaper.
I got a C in psychology back in 1998. I hate to retake it. Since then I took several advanced psychology classes and got A's in all of them. But Ivy tech gives 30 pts for an A in psychology class. I got B+'s in A&P 1 and 2. I dont see how 2 b's and a C would ever get me into the program even if I got 100% on the teas. I bought a study guide for the teas. I did really really well in the practice tests. Sorry to vent.
also it looks as though the ivy tech program is changing in 2007? The paper work they sent me looks like the LPN and ASN take the exact same classes the first year. Anyone else trying to get in for 2007? Anyone had any advise or pearls of wisdom? lol

I'm currently enrolled at Ivy Tech, and trying to get into the nursing program for Fall of '07.
What are the classed you have to take for admission to the nursing program at other schools?

A lot of the schools have similar requirements. I just dont want to have to retake english and psych just to get A's. I have heard you dont get into ivy tech unless you have straight A's.

I graduated from Ivy Tech in 2002 as an LPN. I was waiting on a ASN spot to open and decided to do practical nursing. Since then I have not returned to LPN-ASN but have plans to do LPN-BSN at another institution inthe future. When I was enrolled it didn't require straight A's. It did help though. I was a B+ student in all core nursing course. I got some A's but my gpa was 3.3. So have the requirement/grading standards changed? Is the point system acclerated?

I graduated from Ivy Tech as an ASN in 2005. The seats are limited, and hundreds to thousands-depending on campus-trying to get in. It is sooo competetive. Most likely will require A's-sorry I can't be more promising than that, but that's how my whole class of 40 was, all A's in our prereqs and near perfect scores on the NET(what they used before the TEAS). I'm sure it hasn't changed much, with so many trying to get in. I do wish you best of luck regardless of where you go. As far as expenses, see about the institution that you are going to for aid and scholarships, as well as local hospitals and businesses. Believe me, there is more out there than you can ever imagine. I hope this helps out a little

I have all A's in A and P, but will not get in due to a B that I got many years ago in Psych at BSU. Therefore, I have zero chance. I, even, have A's in other sciences, but that does not matter. If you do not have an A in Psych and English, forget about it!

I graduated the LPN program at Ivy Tech SB in December 2005...I am now in the LPN-RN program. I HAD a 4.0 and still didn't get into the RN program...so I went in the back door...LPN...then LPN-RN. Got right in that way with my grades. It IS longer and MUCH harder as I feel the LPN program was a LOT harder than this whole ASN program seems to be. But, that is the way I had to do it. I think having the LPN first does make me better (experience, etc) and more prepared for the RN program. Plus, I'm already a nurse...if I can't finish right now for some reason I'm ALREADY a nurse! Good luck to you!
What campus did you apply to? I assume some are more competitive than others.
South Bend for me. It was ridiculous...900 applicants for 40 spots...same for LPN program though (had a 4.0 and 5 years previous college experience). I just happened to get into the LPN program so I did the LPN, then the LPN-RN and got right in that way. Plus, I'm already a nurse, big advantage I think. Warning...the LPN program was a lot stricter, a lot more paperwork, a lot more credit hours (17 one semester, 19 the next), overall much harder. I am taking 10 credit hours right now in the RN, the paperwork (while not fun and graded very hard), is nowhere near as intense. It will be harder to go the LPN route first (especially at SB...I hear some campuses aren't as tough), but if it works then try it. Good luck!
wow thats a lot of applicants for the program. I wonder if all 900 have all their prereq. met. What is the lowest gpa they took?
Anyway, they are changing the program there. Next year all the LPN and RN's will be in the same program the first year. All the same classes. Then the RN's will continue the next year.
Maybe they are able to take more students this way? i'm not sure.

I am also planning on going to Ivy Tech, I have a BS and MS in unrelated fields. I also don't have an A in English, so I am taking it again. Why not? It's only a few hundred bucks, and that will insure a 4.0. I think it pretty standard now that you MUST have a 4.0 to get into the clinicals at Ivy Tech. Why? It's so CHEAP! I think I can do the whole program for $6000 in tuition.
for me its a time factor. Redoing a class to get a 4.0 does NOT mean you will get in. There could be another 100 people with a 4.0 you still have to take the teas test and do really well on it. The teas test doesnt look hard. I bought the study guide and it looks to be on a high school level. I just wish ivy tech looked at more than 4 classes for the gpa.
