Why are others nurses rude to agency nurses?
Thank. I appreciate it.

another ivy tech post
I graduated from Ivy Tech in 2002 as an LPN. I was waiting on a ASN spot to open and decided to do practical nursing. Since then I have not returned to LPN-ASN but have plans to do LPN-BSN at another institution inthe future. When I was enrolled it didn't require straight A's. It did help though. I was a B+ student in all core nursing course. I got some A's but my gpa was 3.3. So have the requirement/grading standards changed? Is the point system acclerated?

Thank you. I really need to hear something positive. If you believe in the power of prayer will you stand in agreement with me that God's will will be done in my life. sf.

Why are others nurses rude to agency nurses?
Today is my birthday and I got 'fired' from my contract assignment as a agency nurse. Why? Because of a jealous staff nurse. I just got the position last week. Moments ago, I got a call from my agency that the assignment had been cancelled. Supposedly, I told a staff nurse I like working Corrections because I can sale tobacco to the inmates. Blatant, blatant lie! In fact, this nurse was telling me all the 'dirt' of the facility. I honestly believe she and others were involved in it and wanted to see how I would fit in. It was obvious I am a square peg because I chose not to engage them in the conversation when my opinion was solicited. I should have left the area when the conversation began but again I now believe I was being screened or filtered or some crap. Then to top it all of the nurse said I was talking about my pay which I never do. But she had to sign my timesheet and on a sheet of paper she saw I had computed my hourly rate and hours worked just as an fyi to me and she made snide remarks. In any event, I am kinda depressed. I just returned from a travel nurse position to work for three months in my home state before traveling again. I have no other income. So, I have to bust butt to find a per diem job while I get a new travel assignment or either look for something more permanent here. Staff nurses can be rude to agency nurses but being malicious is really harsh. My livelihood is at stake and my agency didn't even advocate for me not that it may have mattered but gee, that to me is character assassination. Well, thanks for listening. I know I can get a job it is just that the process is timely here and not only that I shouldn't have to. Oh well, maybe this is a blessing in disquise. It makes me want to be a silent worker on assignments but I can't do that either. Well, happy birthday to me!:biggringi

The stipend can be paid weekly in your check in which case they just deduct so many dollars per hour of missed work. For instance, on one assignment I had, $12.50 was assessed for every hour of work I missed up to 36 hours(my contract agreement). A co-worker of mine was hospitalized on this assignment for 2 days of an acute illness. She was assessed $12.50/hr for the 16 hours of work she missed. It came out of her check before she even saw it. One way or the other the agency will get theirs. Still, be encouraged.

rural nurses how do you feel about travel nurses
I am from a moderately sized city in Indiana. I completed a travel assignment to an Indian Reservation Hospital in Ft. Defiance, AZ. It was rather rural considering coming from the midwest with plenty to do and various large, medium, teaching/research hospitals etc. I was warmly recieved by the staff. They were all personable, helpful and inviting. It can work especially if you present with the right attitude and willing spirit. Go for it. sf.

I have a chronic illness ? about travel nursing
I have a chronic gastric condition that can be debilitating when exacerbated by stress, etc. Recently, while on an assignment in AZ I became ill and had to be hospitalized. The staff at my assignment facility was understanding and supporting ( I worked at an Indian Reservation Hospital). Unfortunately, my contract was cancelled and I was sent home early due to remaining too ill to work after the hospitalization. I did have coverage from my agency so healthcare was covered. My agency did not pay for me to return home. I did not recieve my completion bonus obviously. I had to leave my hotel (subsidized by the agency) or pay for my stay myself. My condition was made known at the onset yet when it hit all bets were off. I had to drive home still ill from New Mexico (I lived there and commuted across the state line to AZ to work) to Indianapolis, In. If you do this have a ready reserve and a backup plan. I plan to travel again in the near future. Blessings, Sharon

Any travel nurses working corrections?
INS offers good travel positions within Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix, AZ. The jail has has been showcased on tv's 'Cops' series. They offer 13-26 week assignments. That is Independent Nursing Services, Wendi or Nicole. Also, HRN has traveler position for DOC in California. Check it out.

Racism in the workplace
To RNCRNA... mighty funny you felt the need to respond in length! Until you walk a mile in my mocassins you do well to stay off my path. I do good work as I am sure ALL conscientous nurses strive to do but racism is alive and unfortunately well. Responding in threads is better than donning hoods, giving poor care, work place violence, leaving the profession or ignoring the REAL ISSUE. Cmon...be 4 real.

Racism in the workplace
:wakeneo: :uhoh21: Gizmo, you are right it is a double standard or can be. Problem is blacks have been experiencing it in many forms for many years for many reasons. Unwelcome aboard...know what I mean?

Racism in the workplace
JJJJJJ6- Excellent Point! I strive even harder to provide good, quality care just because I am black. It's like I have to go a step above for personal reasons and because I KNOW my work is being scrutinized. I know because I have heard the whispers...

Racism in the workplace
Lady Flower, No disrespect intended but why are you here in AMERICA if the thought of being assumed to be BLACK because of your skin color is so uncomfortable? I believe the term African-American comes from the descendany of many generations of Blacks whose roots can be traced back to AFRICA! I personally call and consider myself black. I don't have a qualm about it one way or the other. I know WHO I AM and WHOSE I AM! Imagine (if you will) if God segregated HEAVEN based on skin color. Or worse only allow certain nationalities! Ooooh! Terrible thing! I am familiar with other forms of racism and predujice but I have to say that this is a first. For me personally as a Christian (and I am not selling you on religion...these are my views as are your stated ones) it would be like me professing the faith but denying my white, asian, or non-black brother and sisters in Christ/Yeshua.
