Another Bites the Dust

Specializes in School Nursing, Public Health Nurse.

I just realized that I have 2 weeks left at my job. I'm off to bigger and greener pastures. I love my job and *most* of the people I work with, but I love and miss my family more so I'm going to be hightailing it back to Northern California. Unfortunately, back home, School Nurses make a lot less than I do now so I'm moving on to Public Health. I may gravitate back to School Nursing if the right opportunity presents itself. I still have 4 years to get the Credential in my State.

I'll still hang around here since the Public Health Nurses area isn't as lively as the crazy School Nurses over here. I'm going to miss my kids!!!

Also, because I know this has come up before, this is how I broke my contract: Like everyone else in the District, my contract is for one year. I applied for a few jobs over the summer and wasn't expecting to hear anything so soon. I spoke with my Superintendent and HR when I started getting phone interviews. Luckily they were supportive and when I said the words "for my mom" they understood and was okay. I turned in my Letter of Resignation when I got my Official Offer Letter and actually gave 4 weeks notice. They posted my job when I told them I had a Conditional Offer and I agreed to give my official letter with my official offer. My boss on the other hand, if it was up to him (The Superintendent has the final say) he would chain me to my desk for the rest of the year. He was not happy and actually didn't want me to leave until they found my replacement, but HR said nope. I'm good to go (but asked me to stay :().

A friend of mine in a near by District wanted to apply for my job, but was told they would have to get permission from HR and the School Board to leave mid-year. So it varies by District. I also learned, technically if I left mid-year with no replacement The District (actually my Boss would be the only one who would care to do it) could report me to the Credential Department in our State for abandonment. He has in the past from what I was told. But 4 people applied for my job so....

I get to quit next November! Looking forward to that.

What part of Northern CA? The real Northern CA (north of Sacramento) or SF, which is more in the middle? :sneaky:

Best wishes . . . and hey, if you want a school nurse job next year in a rural community, let me know.

The "fake" Northern California aka The Bay Area. I know it's not really that North. But closer than than the sand trap I live in now. If I had to go higher than Sacramento it would have to be Tahoe or I might as well move to Portland.
