So I am a paramedic in AZ, working on my last few prereqs for a medic to RN bridge course. I would love to continue my education and eventually become a nurse practitioner but I'm barely getting started on my Associates and I'm 31. I'll probably be 35 or 36 by the time I even have my BSN, and therefore, in my late 30's (at least) by the time I finish NP. So I'm kinda wondering if I should even bother with it.

Most NPs are not in their twenties even thought more very young nurses are going back. Many, many nurses decide to go back in their 30s and 40s. No one will bat an eyelash at you. And no matter how old you'll be, unless the debt is worrisome, Why not?

I began nursing school in 2010 at age 46 going to school nights and weekends while working full time. Graduated top of class gpa and best in clinical. Three more classes to complete my MSN-FNP. I will be 54. You are never too old to achieve a dream

Your fine. A lot of nurses start later than that. My charge nurse was 40.

You're definitely not too old! I was 32 when I started my medic to RN bridge and 33 when I graduated. I was 35 when I finished my BSN and I've applied for a FNP program to start in the spring. I'm 37 so if you're too old, I guess I am too lol. You're going to get older regardless so you might as well work towards doing something you love.

Thanks, I really needed to see that. I have been struggling with myself as to whether FNP school is worth it right now. I am 51, my youngest is graduating high school this year. I have been a Nurse since 1993, but didn't want to sacrifice any of the time with my kids. I will finish my BSN in December and plan to start FNP in January or May. No regrets for waiting, but the age thing keeps weighing on my mind.

Nope, not too old at all. I finished my ADN at 45, started working as an RN, finished the BSN at 46. Now I'm 47 and just started my FNP. I will be done June 2019 when I'm 49. You're definitely not too old to become an NP.
