ahh...doctors....

A few days ago I answered a call light to find pt. standing at the sink thoroughly rinsing out his mouth over and over.

"Sorry, but that mouthwash the doc brought me has gone bad I think!" he kept saying in between swishes. so I looked at the label and sure enough, it was tearless shampoo!

It turns out that while the doctor was examining him (an attending even!) the Pt. mentioned how he really wanted some mouthwash, and the doctor figured he would "help out the nurses" and grab it for the pt, since the room was right next to the supply closet. Of course he grabbed the wrong bottle, and the pt started swigging without looking at the label after the doc left. (No harm done, shampoo was non-toxic and pt spit it out as soon as it hit his tongue). Luckily the pt. had a great sense of humor and laughed when I told him what had happened.

The best part though was seeing the doc's eyes when another nurse who had seen him leave the supply room stopped him in the hallway to thank him for "being a team player and grabbing that shampoo!"

yeah, the doc was nice, and in his defense, the bottles did look similar

we have this bluish green soapy type stuff that when put in a little orange top container can look like mouthwash

ha ha. That's pretty funny. Good thing the patient didn't get upset. I think the doc needs praise for trying to help the nurse and praise for just being human!

I had a doc put one of my patients on a bed pan once (don't faint-that is not the whole story) He put her on the fracture pan with it turned facing backwards...Not too comfy for her......

Well it sounds like that doc is a keeper. I have actually had a doctor come out of the room and tell me that a patient wanted salt on their meat. (This is when the meal tray is right there with the little salt packet on it.). What a bum. Did have one doc though that a little old lady and him cutting up her food and setting up the tray for her. (Why the person who delivered the food didn't do that, I don't know). The doc actually set up the tray!! I was impressed.

Worked with a doc in KS, extremely intelligent, serious, quiet and introverted guy. He and his wife were older when they married, and had their first kid when both were over 40...I made a sock monkey for the baby and brought it to work.

The MD put it on his shoulder with the legs around his neck and galloped around his office with it and then carried it around the hospital all day. It was too cute. (one of the best docs I have ever been privileged to work with, BTW)

Do you know how to make sock monkeys?????? I had one as a kid and I just loved it, had specail value to me. What I wouldn't give to have one again, just for old times sake. I cannot remember how they are made, do you think you could PM me and tell me how??????? If you do I promise I'll ask santa to be really sweet to you this year!!!!!:)
