Advice

Hi all. Advice needed here. I’ve been a nurse for almost 3 years. I really wanted to do the ER when I graduated but got turned down because I was a new grad (even though other new grads where hired in it). I feel stuck. I’m so unhappy with my nursing career and I don’t feel like I’ll achieve happiness till I scratch that itch of the ER. Please advise and no negative or rude comments we all see that daily in life. Thanks.

    I say go for it! You have almost three years experience so I'd say you have a good chance. You'll always wonder if you never try. Even if you end up hating it at least you'll know and you will have learned some new things along the way anyway. But what if you LOVE it? It's time to find out!

    To help with getting into the ED you could do FEMA training. At the hospital I worked at everybody that worked in the ED had to take online FEMA courses.

    This is a topic near and dear to my heart. I tried for TEN YEARS to do this and no one would hire me because I didn't have ER experience. And yes, new grads were hired into every ER I applied to or tried to transfer into. What I ended up having to do was go to the hospital in my area with the lousiest reputation, where no one wanted to work, and work in their ER for at least one year. Not sure if this is the problem you're running into, but in CA this is how it's done.
