Hello everyone I got hired as a nursing supervisor at this nursing home close to my house I have no nursing home experience but have hospital experience for Abt a year.. Can anyone tell me how this job is going to be?

Well the nurse supervisor at my LTC says this almost every day "I have never been so utterly frustrated in my entire life. I've got to find a new job."

Lol well that's good to hear.. This is a small nursing home with total of 60 patients

To be fair. your job has a lot of problems.

60 residents is quite doable even without experience. Our focus is keeping our residents in the building so I rely on my 3-11 supervisor to help the staff nurses with assessing the resident and convincing the doc to keep the resident with us. Ask for a job description to gat an idea of what you'll be responsible for.

There's no nurses working the floor it's just LPNs and CNAs

I suggest you not go to work and say LPNs aren't nurses. You'd be asked to leave.

Oh my oh my....you are going to want to change that little statement really really fast! LPN's are nurses and you will be counting on them heavily while you are in the learning stages. I kid you not...they will eat you up and spit you out if you dare to tell them they are not nurses!

I am seriously trying to help you here. There is nothing more irritating to a lifelong committed LPN that thrives in LTC than to have a "hospital know it all RN" show up and tell them they are not a nurse.

Nascar nurse is spot on here...

You want advise DON"T TELL A LPN NURSE SHE IS NOT A NURSE

Wow sweetie if you make this comment at your work it will be the biggest mistake of you RN nursing career...You will loose all respect from your LPN NURSES, and your job will become a living nightmare. You might want to say your sorry to the hundreds or thousands of LPNs on this board as well

2nd word of advise is as their supervisor please give your LPNs and your CNAs the RESPECT they deserve. As you stated you are new to all of this and many of those LPNs and CNAs know what they are doing and know how the LTC works.

-__- glad to know how u really feel

Could have sworn my name tag said licensed practical NURSE but I could be wrong

At my LTC facility RN & LPNs work the floor equally LPNs train RNs & RNs train LPNs u truly don't know the difference until u look at the name tag

But yeaaaa don't say that at work or really ever ur just askin for it

I'm sorry if I offended anyone but did not mean it that way at all!!! What I meant to say is LPNs are the ones working on the floor there's no RN on the floor! The rn is the supervisor lol I hope I got my point across I know and am sure that LPNs are nurses and value them as well

Yep, understand perfectly what you said. If I were you I wouldn't go into any new job with that mind set. You will get chewed up and spit out, maybe by an LPN just like me.
