Hi there I'm looking for some advice. I had a breakdown but I am returning to work and looking for a suitable role. My confidence is fairly low so I am trying to look for an area that i can build my confidence up in; I am a fully qualified adult nurse but I am willing to drop bands to get myself back on my feet. I am really confused as to what to do for the best and the stress of needing a new job/finances/living situation due to finances is making my depression worse. is there any other roles to ward nursing or HCA work that i could look into and use my skills in?
Has anyone been through this? What did you do and did it work out?

I worked for several years in a doctors surgery as a practice nurse, although there is stress it is a different type of stress and I found myself going home at night and relaxed and not worried about things that I wasn't able to do

I second SD's suggestion above & also would add that you could also look into local Private Hospitals, their nurse to patient ratio is usually better, as are conditions (although pay is sometimes a bit lower.)
An Out Patient Department is another possibility (Private hospitals are also worth looking at here too.)
I'm sure you will be able to find something that suits and still allows you to be a nurse.

Not sure what speciality you have come from, but what are you looking for?
A lot of patient contact, or just minimal? I'm thinking OR, (anaethetized patients don't tend to talk much!), or maybe a telephone triage job?
Working alone or in a team?
And what about clinical dependency? Are you looking for ITU work, or a cosy little nursing home?
My questions are becuase I know only too well that being in the wrong job can be just as stressful as NOT having a job at all, Square peg in a round hole, and all that!

I was in exactly the same position. I went to work in a reputable nursing home. The pace is different and the quality of relationships is there - my advice would be to take it slowly, work part time if necessary, and be honest with propspective employers - if they are worth working for, they'll support you, and give you regular feedback and support.
