Hello,
I am a new grad and passed NCLEX on 8/8/12. I am waiting for a job, and would like to start reviewing for ACLS. I dont plan on buying the book, however I will if needed. What kind of review/studying can I do while I have the time? Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks

Buy the book. From my understanding it is new version, so I would get the most updated one you could. Can you buy it used or buy it to put on a kindle?

Why would you not but the book? At Least the first time you take it, it would be a good idea. There is a ton of information to understand and study.

As an ACLS Instructor for 25 years I can generally put new Nurses/Medics/Docs into 2 cats; those who read the book (they passed) and those who did NOT read the book (they failed).
I wasn't sure if my "future employer" would provide the book, or not. Money is a little tight and I wanted to start reviewing info that i could find on-line for free. I will take your advice and get it ordered. Is there just 1 book?
I will get the book ordered thanks...is there any other "self-study" materials that you recommended, or does the ACLS book cover all the needed information?
Other than maybe, some basic monitor rhythm review....the book has what you need.

My hospital pays for the ACLS course. If money is an issue, I'd give it a few weeks to see if you get a job in a hospital where they'll pay for this course.

Before taking ACLS, I pulled out any and all cardiac related information from nursing school. You should still have yours handy :) I had taken a telemetry elective from a top notch cardiac nursing instructor and the information from that class was very helpful in addition to the ACLS book. You can order the provider manual on-line from The American Heart Association's website. Best wishes to you

You have to have a book. Even an older book but a book. There are mock codes and ekg's on youtube.com. Most of the videos you can't hear. Good luck.

I started a new job recently and took PALS for it. The american heart association website has some great online courses. For instance if you need some review on the cardiac rhythms, there is an online course for it. I took the pediatric ekg rhythms class, it was around $30-35. It's a hard toss up regarding taking ACLS prior to getting a job or not. Some feel it may be a benefit to you if you are already ACLS certified prior to getting a job (you are more marketable.) But then again, it depends on which department you are hired in, not all need to be ACLS certified. Another good place to look for the ACLS book at a better price is Ebay or half.com. I would stick with the new version though, not an older book as they change things. Good luck and congrats on passing Nclex. :)
