Aaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!

Growing up I had very painful and heavy periods:crying2: ......to the point where I was off school for up to a week at a time, and I could have kept Tampax in business just on my own (upto the point where I was wearing a super plus tampon and 2 night time pads), anyways you get the picture. Bless my mom, she took me to the gyno (I was 11) I was placed on the pill, and I was reborn, no more cramps, cycle lasted less than 5 days Q MONTH, I was in heaven.....I hope you daughter feels better the next time her visitors are in town :rotfl:

Also, just b/c your daugter is on the pill now, no one else need know, I did not have my 1st b/friend until 15.

Hate that you were treated so poorly at the office. I think the pill will help your daughter. I'm sure every woman's experience is different but it made my periods very very light and limited (usually 5 days). Also I think I have had cramps once or twice in 6 years and they were not bad at all. But I didn't have issues like your daughter does. I wish you both the best. The previous poster is right, no one need know about her being on the pill unless you guys want them to know.

I had terrible cramping and pain,from my waist down to my low back, abd, pelvis, & thighs.

My back felt like it would break, and I would be actually nauseated from the pain. I would curl up with a heating pad for the 1st day or 2. Just miserable! My periods were also very heavy. I did grow out of it though. I feel for her. Sorry you had such a bad experience at the docs. Hope the pill helps. You're a good mom for getting them for her.

I would have terriable cramps, heavy bleeding etc. going on the pill helped me. Then I had children things wern't really bad at all. NOw since I had my tubes tied my menstrual cycle seems to be getting worse again. Need to go back and ask the dr. but just havn't had the time.

So sorry you were treated like that in the DR. office that should never had happened. Let us know how things go.

Just returned for the gyn with my 16yo daughter. She has the world's worst menstral cramps. She actually passed out yesterday from pain. The day before and the day she starts she pretty much lays on the floor in a ball and cries. I went with my daughter back to the exam room and the woman (whatever she was was) was NASTY. When she told my daughter to remove her tampon and undress, I simply said very calmly "we would just like to speak to the Dr." I didn't think it was necessary to be examined. (daughter had exam and sono months before, she was taking Naproxen and bled for 45 days) anyways the woman went ballistic, CALM DOWN, she says. I was calm. She goes and tells the Dr something and the lady Doc comes in to us with an attitude because of what the wacky woman must of said to her. Doc says why don't you take advil or aleve. aaaaagh!!! I would NEVER have taken her there if it was that simple. She passed out at school yesterday from pain. (not blood loss) Doc put her on the pill. I pray it helps, but I could cringe from the thought of my daughter on the pill. She has never had a boyfriend even.

Sorry for the rant. Does anyone think it will help????

I work in Developmental and Disabilities Services, and we have several ladies, that live at our facility, who take the pill for menstrual pain, and heavy periods, and yes, it helps them.

So it should help your daughter, too.

Doesn't that upset you when someone ELSE has the attitude problem and they tell YOU to calm down?

I went to a very large bookstore once, {I used to love to go there, and read, and I always spent alot of money there}, and I walked up to the counter, and the clerk had her back to me, so I knew she didn't know I was there, and I CALMLY asked her if she was checking. WOW, you would have thought I screamed at her, but I did not. She said, "What is your problem? You came up here and jumped all over me!"

I don't know where that came from, but I reported her to the manager.

I also won't go to their store anymore.

What is it with people now-a-days, that they act like that and try to make you out to be the idiot?

Times like that I wish I had a mini tape recorder hidden in my clothing to actually tape the incident so it could be proven that I didn't jump on her.

I literally am the queen of horrible periods...I have been ever since the onset...at age 13....(I'm almost 28 now). Anyways....I did the BCP thing for a long time...and it did help some...but then the pain with periods became unbearable and I finally found a doctor that would listen to me. Anyways...he mentioned endometriosis.... Little did I know at the time...that that word would literally become my life from then on. I had a laparoscopy..(granted I'm 22 years old by now) and sure enough..endometriosis was found. Now I'm to the point where I've had two lap's and it's back again. I have to take at least one vacation day a month due to severe menstrual cramps....and now we are going thru the infertility thing...which really sucks.

Anyways...give the pill a few months to see if it helps...if not...I highly recommend investigating the endometriosis thing!!!! It is truly one of the most under-diagnosed diseases out there. Secondly.....find an understanding, caring, and knowledgable doctor!!!!! I can't even count how many doc's I went thru until i finally found one that even mentioned endometriosis. All of them kept saying....."some women have bad cramps", "take Ibuprofen". Severe cramps are not normal!!!! It's your body telling you that something isn't right!!!! Some of the symptoms of endo are:

Very painful periods, backache with period, nausea and vomiting with period, infertility, diarrhea/and/or constipation, heavy bleeding, fatigue, and pain with sexual intercourse.

I literally am a walking encyclopedia(sp?) on endometriosis. If I can be of any help to you or your daughter in the future....please let me know...k?

Your poor, poor daughter! I felt like I was reading about myself at that age while I was reading your post. I can completely empathize.

When I started menstruating, at age 11, I too had horrible pain (pass out, nauseas, vomiting, lying in bed all day with a heating pad). I was started on OC and this did help me.

Around age 20 I decided to take an OC "hiatus." I tried an herb recommended to me called don quai. This herb actually helped me more than the birth control pills ever did. I felt great during my periods; no pain! These herbs are not federally regulated though, which is a huge concern. Not many practitioners know much about them.

9 years later I'm back on OC (this time because I don't want to get pregnant, yet! :) ) and my periods are much more tolerable. They DID improve as I got older. I also take a B complex each day, which I've been told improves menstrual discomfort, and Vit E (400 mg/day) which helps with breast tenderness.

You could also try acupuncture or massage therapy (if you can afford it). One thing I have noticed over the years, because I am very conscious of how my body feels: The more stressful the weeks proceeding my period are, the worse the cramps tend to be.

Anyway, good luck. I hope you can find a PCP who is a little more understanding!!!

It makes me more calm to realize others have menstrual problems like me, I am glad I am not the only one........but I deeply sympathsize with each of you!

For the first time since I am 15, and, after 2 babies in 2 years, I am off the pill, because my husband had a vasectomy. I had forgotton the intense pain and agony I went thru as a teen and young adult until recently. There is no need for me to take the pill anymore, and I started it again, just for the comfort of that time. I usually start on bedrest my second day, with heating pads, Ibuprofen, and Lortab. It works for my pain, but with my 12 y/o, 2 y/o, and 1 y/o, I don't have the time to stay off my feet, and be dizzy from meds. The pill has worked for me, it doesn't take it all away, but it does ease the symptoms. Let her try it, and I have found that many times last month, I have forgotton to take my pill. Which then does not help anything, so I moved this month to the patch. :)

I was EXACTLY the same as your daughter when I was her age. I also went on the pill at 16 and it was a godsent! Lighter and shorter periods and either no or minimal cramps. Don't worry about the idea of her being on the pill. It's going to help her ! Good luck!

I was one of the unfortunate ones, too who had horrrilbe periods...ended up with fibroids and internal endometriosis (yup, lining overgrew in my boggy uterus from fibroid growing between uterine wall). After nmultiple d&cs and ablations, had a hyst at age 39..best thing i ever did for myself!!:) So, when my 14 and 16 year olds were haveing the smae symptoms, they went on Depo provera shots (now not used often due to bone density issuyes) I refuse to let them have the miserable time I did and lose out on as much of life as I had to..you are doing your daughter a great favor! I know many poeidatrician/adolescent MDs who use the OC for menatural regulation! Look into your local medical center for a GYN that specializes in Adolescents..good luck to both of you!
