I was reading @BiscuitRN and @nursex23's posts today about venting, or being on the edge of losing it.... And thought you might like to know that I've reached a new low (or maybe high).
Today I realized that the school I work in is literally probably among the most challenging schools in the entire nation. If you've read my posts, you might agree that it really doesn't get much worse. And yet, I like the kids and mostly manage OK.
Now, I hear that they're planning to eliminate my job (nothing personal, they're moving positions into bigger schools.. I don't actually disagree). And somehow, this has been incredibly liberating. No more agonizing about whether to keep slogging along, or feeling guilty about wanting a better setup with "easier" kids. No more worrying about the possibility of ending up on the news
No job is perfect but I DO want a better setup. I have thick skin, but still would rather not be sworn at every single day (today, off the top of my head: "Ice don't do sh**for me." "you're not even a real ****ing nurse" "why don't you just call the ****ing group home like I asked?").
I may lack the grit and dedication of my colleagues, but I will say this: I would enjoy seeing some average high school kids who might sit in a chair when asked, without grabbing my dirty coffee cup, squirting hand sanitizer on the floor, or trying to open my desk drawers.
School nurses, I am setting out to find my 20-21 fate! In-district transfer spots and open positions elsewhere will be posted soon. I'm so glad I found school nursing, but there's gotta be a slightly more reasonable option out there... fingers crossed.
