The government argued they complied with the court's orders but the judge said the "record makes clear" that a so-called "manual review process" instituted by FEMA after the litigation began was a backdoor way to implement the verboten freeze. "Thus, FEMA's manual review process violates the court's preliminary injunction order,” McConnell wrote in the Friday enforcement order. Gee, I wonder if there will be any consequences in this constitutional crisis?

It's not really about meeting the parents but I'm certain Trump didn't care about meeting them either. Given his history, it's easy for a grieving family to imagine that Trump would use that as a photo opportunity to promote himself as a strong leader that supports the members of the military. That's what he did at Arlington National Cemetery.

I've only had time for the first few minutes, but it seems like it's a discussion worthy of listening to. I'll try later. Krugman, while he didn't say he would recommend it he did say retaliatory measures by Canada would be justified. Then he mentioned Tesla specifically but didn't say why. I thought was an oddly biased comment to make. I wonder if they'll mention that other politicians for decades have been wanting trade policies more favorable to the US. Pelosi, for example: https://youtu.be/7kM0yl8W0gQ?feature=shared

Apr 7, 20251 yr https://apnews.com/article/stocks-markets-nikkei-tariffs-trump-76d0de278a6cad291ace624a74a6a1b6 Quote Trump's tariff strategy has long been criticized by economists, investors and business leaders, who fear that U.S. isolation will severely limit economic growth. "The recent tariffs will likely increase inflation and are causing many to consider a greater probability of a recession,” wrote JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon in his annual letter to shareholders Monday. "Whether or not the menu of tariffs causes a recession remains in question, but it will slow down growth.” Quote Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index lost nearly 8% shortly after the market opened and futures trading for the benchmark was briefly suspended. It closed down 7.8% at 31,136.58. European shares followed Asian markets lower, led by Germany's DAX index, which briefly fell more than 10% at the open on the Frankfurt exchange, but recovered some ground to move down 4.8% in midday trading. In Paris, the CAC 40 shed 5.1%, while Britain's FTSE 100 lost 4.9%. Trumps toxicity is far reaching.

Apr 7, 20251 yr Beerman said: I wonder if they'll mention that other politicians for decades have been wanting trade policies more favorable to the US. This is a fair statement. With China specifically the US has been trying to get to their billion consumers ever since they became a capitalist economy. During the economic boom of the 80's in Japan their practices were widely seen as unfavorable to the US. Trump has his points. One issue is that we like to export as well. We want access to Chinese and European markets and a trade war will hurt those industries that export. We are the 2nd largest exporter in the world behind China. In the meantime countries like Israel and Cambodia, both with little to offer, has stopped tariffs on US imports in a bid to individually negotiate. At the end of the day you have to buy into the idea that they were taking advantage of us and that our economy was in ruins. I think part of the reason that status quo was maintained in terms of trade was that we still have a thriving economy. We moved away from manufacturing to service, technology and energy and have the #1 economy in the world still. It's a mess that will have winners and losers. Just like there were winners and losers as manufacturing left. The people that saw their industries disappear are supporting the tariffs. Even though the car industry here is over run with foreign made cars we still exported 65 billion in cars, and the energy sector exported billions as well. Those "401K people" also seem to be losing at the moment. We'll see how it all washes out in the end. It's the opposite of what he promised. He promised lower prices and now it's our patriotic duty to suck up having our retirements ruined and prices rising.
