I am a new RN grad. I do not have experience as an RN. However, I have experience as a staffing coordinator and billing. I have tried to get into SNF/LTC in my area, but they are not hiring new grad RN. RN positions available are for MDS and manager. The only direct care position are for experienced LVN. How can I get into this field as a new grad RN.

Try applying at SNfs with short term rehab units. They are more likely to hire RNs.

At my facility, LPNs and RNs are hired into the same position. It might be worth calling a facility to ask if they'll accept an RN as a floor nurse.

Can you move or drive to another area? In my area, the job ads always say "Must have 1 year of long term care experience". However, the fact is that they hire "New grads" all the time because they can pay them less money than the experienced nurses.

I second the idea about rehab - because some or a lot of these patients need PICC line care, they are more likely to hire RNs. That was my first nursing job, and if I hadn't moved I would have stayed forever!

Go into the facilities with a resume and cover letter. Chances are they are hiring nurses. I have never heard of a LTC who is fully staffed. :)

Good News!!!!!!. I went to a job fair yesterday at a hospital. I got offered a job on the spot on the Post-Acute/SNF/Rehab Unit. I am really happy and excited. I cannot wait to begin my nursing journey.
