WGU BSN Grads: Any problems getting into a FNP program?

Hi!

I am interested in the Western Governors University RN-BSN program because of the cost and time element (I work full time); however, I had heard that because they award GPAs of 3.0 that it would be difficult to get accepted into a FNP or Midwife program. CSU Fullerton said it wouldn't be competitive enough, but CSU Dominguez Hills said they would accept it and currently have students from WGU.

What other schools have people gotten into for a FNP? Or has anyone else encountered problems getting into FNP programs--and if so what did you do about it?

Thanks everyone! :)

I am interested in knowing this as well, as I would like to further my degree post WGU (RN-BSN) to get my NP in Women's Health.

Not a bit.

I graduated in October with my MSN, and started post MSN FNP at SCJCME last week!

:)

Thank you SweettartRN for this response! I'm starting WGU's MSN Education track next month and planning to pursue a post MSN FNP locally where I completed my BSN. Which MSN track did you complete with WGU and how long did it take you? Thanks!

Thanks everyone for responding! Sometimes it seems like it takes forever to get a reply to a new post.

So you guys got your MSN at WGU and then you will transfer to another school to get your FNP? I had heard that some schools won't accept a 3.0 because the minimum is 3.3 or above. My aunt works at CU Denver and they said I woudn't be competitive enough with a 3.0.

Probably not competitive because the program is impacted and there are so many applicants. That could be a possibility.

I just finished my application with WGU today. I am trying to go for a rn-bsn or possibly a rn-msn then try for post masters certification elsewhere. Any suggestions or ideas for me

I was accepted to Maryville and University of Memphis, both for FNP/MSN. I also applied to Vanderbilt, but I pulled my application after going to an APRN open house there and hearing the Dean of the FNP program say that she doesn't recommend that new grads get any experience before going into an FNP program.
