Yeah. I actually went over to Huffpo and give them my two cents on it.

EVERYONE needs to go and flood them with reality!

RUN!!!!!!!!!

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife!

All right folks, we should all know that the current situation (not enough jobs for nurses) will turn around quickly and viciously when the economic situation turns around. And I believe it will particularly nasty (the shortage). I believe it will be one of the worst we have seen in many decades as it will coincide not only with the aging of the baby-boomers, but the sudden exit of thousands and thousands of nurses who have been:

A. Waiting to retire because their retirement is in shambles but they are now okay (or really just can't work anymore).

B. Waiting for the husbands/significant others to get their jobs back so they can go back to part-time or stay at home.

C. Waiting to have a baby when the economy is better and "B" happens at which time they will go part-time or stay at home.

And that's if there is no effect from healthcare reform. I know all the nurses here can take little consolation from the thought that there will be lots of jobs in a few years, but I do believe there will be.

So when will the economic situation turn around? I far underestimated the length of it so far, but I'm kind of protected from the worst of it here in Texas.

I don't think it's unreasonable to predict that there is a bad nursing shortage coming, but with the current job situation, I could not recommend that people enter the field until there are definite signs of recovery. And at that time, my Lord, there's going to be a huge shortage of nursing instructors!!

They had a hard time keeping nursing instructors at the school I went to. That wasn't long ago. I had one instructor say that it was the lowest paying job she had ever taken in her nursing career and that included when she first started as a floor nurse 20+ years ago. Lots of my instructors were retired, had husbands who were doctors/sugeons so they just wanted something to keep busy as opposed to needing the income, or they were going to school themselves to be NPs.
