My program is rather small with only 170 or so students. I don't know everyone, obviously, but I know of at least four people (and rumored at least six more) that have either left the program or have flunked out. It saddens me that people are forced to sit out the rest of the year and wanted to see just how common or how uncommon it is to lose people so easily.

Lots. Well, respectively, we've lost more than 50% of the cohort, but the school's NCLEX pass rate is like ninety something percent. We started with 25 people. We're still losing them too.

50-60% is about expected. Our class started out with 40 and at the end of this semester we are down to 18 (maybe less...I won't know until I get the list for our final semester in the spring). But our school's NCLEX pass rate was 100% last year.

My class started with about 120 people and we graduate in June. We have about 70 or so people now. The school I'm in had a 100% pass rate but after the last class that graduated it went down to somewhere in the 90's so they're making it even harder.

Some of the people that don't make it didn't fail however. Some of them were pregnant and didn't want to go to school at the same time, some of them dropped because they either they were failing or something else came up.

Our class started with 94, we are down to 72. I dont know how many we will lose after this semester.

We started with 80 in January 2011, and we probably lost about 15-20 of those after Fundamentals (first semester) and another 10-15 after Med-Surg I.

It's kind of hard to keep an exact count, because each semester we "gain" students who are coming back to retake a class for the second time, or who are rejoining the program after having dropped out for personal reasons. (I'm in the part-time program, and a lot of the full-timers who fail a class join up with our program -- most of us are working adults, and it's a lot easier for busy folks to keep up in the slower-paced part-time program (which is 7 semesters, not including pre-reqs) compared to the intensive full-time program (which is only 4 semesters for the same amount of class/clinical time).

We're doing OB/Peds right now, and I don't know of anyone who is failing this semester... but I'm sure that Med-Surg II will take its toll on our numbers again.

My ABSN program started with 64. One person dropped out because she just did not want to do nursing anymore (she was doing well academically) and 4 others decelerated into the 2-year program. Not bad I think compared to the numbers I see above.

Maybe 15 % ?? I dunno. We started with 54 and have about 46 or so. Have a couple of folks who joined us last term.

I am in a class of 8, and we had one drop due to health. Now we are 7.

We have our final for our first semester on Wednesday.It is a 2 year ladder program. We started with 42 in August, lost 2 after Fundamentals, 1 so far a couple of weeks ago, and probably 3-5 more after finals unless they pull off miracles. Our NCLEX pass rate is something like 99% and has been 100% for the past couple of years. We also have 2 girls who are pregnant that are discussing exiting after the LPN portion is complete. Every incoming class is 42 for us so if the class above us is any indication we will lose something like 50% before everyone finishes second level. Apparently the administration is really happy with our class though, they keep telling us that we are the best group they have had in a very long time yet there isn't a single person in the class with an A right now...there are some things about nursing school that I will never understand.

I'm about to finish 1st Semester of 4. My cohort started with 33, now we're down to 29. Yes, we have lost 4. One dropped right away, one stayed with it for a couple months and realized it's not for him, and we lost 2 a couple weeks ago. Of those, I know that 1 is returning next semester to repeat 1st Semester, and a total of 3 of that cohort is returning students.

In all, my program has about 100-120 student. The NCLEX pass rate is typically in the 90's.

I can never count because we always seem to gain so many students. I don't know about the class in front of is.....I know we've lost 1 or 2 a semester but seems like we 5 or more from the class ahead of us!

We started with 60 first semester and lost 5-6 by (the current) second semester. We gained 15 LPN students, but I'd imagine we'll probably lose at least 8-10 this semester, as it has been pretty difficult for a lot of people.
