There are many threads related to the stressors of our jobs and all the hoops we go through to do what we do every day-vents are a way to relieve some of that stress(not knocking vents).

I just wanted to say how fortunate I feel to have a job that I like 99% of the time, I work with great patients and staff , the staff (mostly) feel they have a positive impact on others. Able to pay my family's bills and enjoy some extras for my family every now and then too.

Several of my friends have jobs or businesses that are going through tough times and are needing to find other/additional employment so they can afford health insurance and day to day necessities.

Im not a nurse yet, but I do want to say this is a great thread you started. Sometimes some people are so focused on the negative aspects of their job they dont realize how lucky/blessed they are to have a job in this economy or they dont focus on the good things about their job.

I feel fortunate because I have a job that pays me very well, lets me write my own schedules, gives me invaluable experience for my career, has introduced me to many wonderful co-workers/friends, and has given me the opportunity to take care of some wonderful pts.

I feel very fortunate that I passed my NCLEX the very first time I took it, and obtained a job 2 months after graduating last year. (Not in the specialty/hospital/location that I wanted, but I was just thrilled to get a job so quickly).

I feel very fortunate that I have amazing coworkers that didn't mind training a new grad (me). They encouraged me to ask questions no matter how dumb they may have seemed, because they rather have me ask and be sure than to risk harming my patients.

I feel very fortunate that despite the hospital's many faults (poor admin, often times poor staffing) my coworkers know what team work is, and will help out without questions asked.

I am fortunate that I have loved being a nurse for so many years because of the differences I have made in people's lives. That does not mean I have not faced challenges in every nursing job I have been in. I have. I found it challenging and stisfying to solve the problems I could and ignore the ones I had no power to change.

sometimes I had to remind myself that nursing is not not the only profession that faces challenges. My sister, the kindergarten teacher, deals with crying children and demanding parents every day. My brother, the physical therapist, deals with unmotivated patients and administrators who seem to care more about the bottom line than quality care.

I feel very fortunate that I passed NCLEX on the first try and was offered a position just six weeks later. I'm on a very difficult floor but i couldn't have asked for a better place to start.

I feel fortunate that as a single mom, I can afford my house and car. And all the things a 13 year old girl needs. I also feel fortunate I had a skill when my 33 year marriage failed. I feel even more fortunate, I do not need him to live my lifestyle. Peace!

Great thread! I also feel very fortunate in that there is no shortage of work for me during these very challenging economic times.

Well, what the others said. Decent pay, that allows me to live in my home, and pay my bills. I like the respect I get when I tell people I'm a nurse. They tend to be nicer to me. I can work any hours I want at any hospital I want.

Decent pay, working 3 days a week, and just being able to do something I love. Mother baby is such a fun area to work in, and you really get to impact people's lives. The other day when I said goodbye to a first time mother I'd been taking care of for 3 days, she bawled. It was such a great feeling to know what a difference I made in her and her husband's life welcoming their little one to the world! :heartbeat

I feel blessed that I have a career, not just a job, in which I'm able to afford all of my basic necessities with a few luxuries every now and then. I'm not stressed about how I'm going to make it. I make more in a day than many people make in a week. I've met some great people and have had the opportunity to learn some amazing things.

I feel fortune that nursing helped me raise a child by myself. I worked full time and went to college. I feel fortunate that a long time ago I saw that way nursing was headed and decided to get other degrees. My faith will help me be fortunate to get another job. The job of my dreams.
