do employers care if you are on xanax?

Featured Replies

Employers do not have the right to ask you about any medical conditions/presciption medications. So long as it has no affect on your ability to do the job, there is no reason for them to know.

Just don't mention it. Ever! Not even in general conversation after you get the job. We all know that people judge. And in the medical profession, we have the least excuse to judge, but sadly, people are still judged. The best policy is to keep it private.

Well, you're gonna have to disclose the Xanax on the pre employment drug screen.

I don't think that is true. The drug screening lab will note the postive result, contact you to see if you have a script, you fax or bring them the script, they put the test thru as clean.

I'm not having a drug screen. But my doctor wrote it down on my physical as one of the medications I take. Meanwhile I have only ever taken 2 in my life. I have anxiety so I actually have anxiety about taking pills so I'm scared to take them. So about 6 months ago he gave me an rx for it for anxiety. & now I have anxiety about this! I don't know what they will say if anything. Thanks everyone!

Please get the rel deal from your employer. In some states you can't work while taking narcotics and/or benzos. See what your nurse practice act says.

My employers have no idea I take Ativan.

They probably won't...anti anxiety meds are pretty common these days. I take xanex ocassionally - it calms me down in the event I have a panic attack - but it does not impair me...at least at the small dosage I take.

You should be fine!

Thank you so much! I feel so much better! :)

My job mandates random drug screens. My last one I was taking Pain med for jaw infection prior to extractions, and I attempted to show them the prescription bottle so they could document it. They told me they didn't do that and if my employer had any questions they would contact me and I should produce the bottle at that time. I wasn't using them around the clock so evidently they were out of my system or the level was small enough not to be of any consequence, because I never heard any thing about it and am still working there 2 years later. If you are only using your meds infrequently, your outcome most likely will be like mine. Good luck and God bless.

i hope not cus i could sure use some. lol

with a prescription of course. thank you :)

with the way most hospitals treat you.... chances are they are the reason your on Xanax!
