But what is the biggest baby (weight wise) that you have had admitted into the unit?

I had a 13lb 7.8oz kid. She reminds me of the Pillsbury Dough boy meets the Michelin man!

13 lbs 2 oz. And 23 1/2 in long! He was so fat he couldn't open his eyes all the way!!

We had the biggest set of twins in the state:

girl was 11#12 oz.

boy was 11#3 oz.

My gosh!!! Mom must have looked like she was carrying quads!!!!! Did she make it to term?

We had a Mec Asp kid who was something like 12 pounds. I assume he pooped because he was so darn uncomfortable in there. He looked like he was about to start kindergarten. And you know how Gestational Diabetes kids have the hairy ears? I swear to God, his was so long it curled.

Haha, we once told one of our new nurses that the NNPs were going to wax a baby's ears before discharge because it's unsanitary to have hairy ears like that. She totally believed it.

I didn't admit them, and they went to Newborn, but we had the biggest twins in the state a few weeks ago at our hospital. Here is a link to the story MSNBC had on their site. No gestational diabetes either. Mom's first was over 10 pounds. They both have family histories of large babies. I am glad I am no relation!

One I remember is an 11lb 2oz baby that was SVD! I couldn't believe it, I saw the mom and she was average build. OUCH

I had a 37 weeker the other day 10lb 9oz (IDDM) Poor kid could barely open his eyes his cheeks were so fat!

We also had an over 11 pound infant (can't remember the ounces) that was a partial lady partsl delivery. It was the textbook "what can go wrong". No prenatal care, out of control Diabetes. Head came out, rest of the baby didn't. Honestly I don't remember how they wound up getting the baby out but I don't think it was lady partsl, I think it was one of those C/S that they had to try to push the head back up, it was bad. Kid with bad hypoxic insult. Had to eventually get a G-button as he never could figure out the eating thing. He was absolutely beautiful and very damaged. And I can't get into how bad the family situation he was allowed to go home to was.

Being that he started at 11 pounds and stayed for so long he absolutely looked like a kindergartener when he left.

We had another IDDM kid that was well over 12 pounds. The funny thing about her was some genius put her in a regular open crib at first and she was constantly whacking the sides with her hands and feet. She soon got one of those big cribs.
