Movies about genetic diseases/conditions

Nursing student here...taking a genetics class this semester, and we have to watch a movie or read a book that portrays a family dealing with a genetic disease/condition.

Does anyone have any suggestions of movies/books that address this -- especially ones that portray childbearing families dealing with these issues?

Thanks very much!

Lorenzo's Oil was a good book, and made into a movie. Can't remember the name of his problem....it causes progressive muscle weakness.

The amazing thing is that the tx, formulated by his parents, works well. Unfortunately, it was too late for complete recovery for him, but has given other children productive lives. There was a f/u report on TV a few months ago.

My Left Foot deals with a family that has a child with CP.

Thanks very much! Lorenzo's Oil keeps coming up in my searches and when I ask people. Haven't heard of My Left Foot though - I'll have to look into that one. (I suspect several other students in my class will do Lorenzo's Oil, so I'd like to do something different if possible.)

Thanks again!

Elephant man?

Can't recall if he had a genetic condition.

MASK? I don't remember the disease, but Cher had a son with deformed face. It was a good movie.

I Know there's Lou Gehrig's disease. And there are movies about him out there, surely they deal with the disease?? (He was a baseball player).

oh yeah, MASK was great!

There was that Samuel L. Jackson movie about OI (osteogenesis imperfecta). What was it called?

Oh, Unbreakable. With Bruce Willis. It was done by the same dude that did Signs (which I still haven't seen).

A Beautiful Mind is still a very good movie.....

and I've heard that in real life, Nash's son also suffers from the disease.

There was a great movie a number of years ago about a child named Alex who had CysticFibrosis. Wish I could remember the name...Alex,The Life of a Child maybe??Also a book. True story.

edit..did a search for ya, here it is.http://www.videoeta.com/movie/2016
